Does it clear the exhaust, Pug? It certainly looks good on the bike. :)

I used to kneel on the seat with me left knee enabling a good long and HEAVY thwack at it using loads of body weight. It would NEVER start outside the Mardyke on a friday night, but would alway start first time, every time, to go to work.

Ignition off
Two squirts of the throttle
Gentle kick twice past TDC
Choke on
Ignition on
Kick ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM.

Good luck :thumbsu:

I used to have a kickstart on the Future Bike 'cos I always wanted a big black bike that you had to leave on the side-stand to kick over.

Then when it was rebuilt in 2000, I asked Budgie to wire up the electric start properly - five years was enough. ;)

Good luck Pug! :D

Does it have a valve lifter? How the hell will it get over compression? When you kick, make sure you follow through all the way to the end of the stroke. You have to get enough energy into the flywheel to turn the engine over TDC and start into the next stroke. My old 500cc single is a pig to start but when you have done it for a while it gets easier. It used to take anything from 20-30 mins to start and I got it down to about 5. The reason my one was so hard to start was that the barrel/piston was buggered from a partial seizure. If the engine has been rebuilt it may be a bit stiff at first but once it is run in it should get easier....... Good luck!;)

Both my Shovels were kickers. I just loved the style of them. However, Last time I kicked the big one, she kicked back and then the kicker dropped to the bottom of the swing. My knee came down on the frame tube and dislocated it. SIX FECKING WEEKS on crutches! OOOH ya bastid that hurt.

Soon as I was back on my feet, I was dying to go for a ride. Took the smaller one, kicked her over, kicker slipped, I fell forward over the tank and I felt this awful tearing in my knee. Mrs Chopper helped me limp back into the house and I watched my knee swelling to twice its normal size. Off down to A&E in agony. Crushed the cartiledge in my knee and had to have surgery to remove it. My knee has never been the same since.

Always said I would never buy an Evo. Now I just switch on, two twists of the throttle, choke on and push the button. My FXR starts first time every time. My Twin Cam Softail does the same and the Sportster Sport I am getting does the same. All my Jap bikes are electric start as well.

I do miss the kickers but NOT the pain and suffering that went with them.

Good luck with it mate, fine looking bike you have there.

Chopper.

Ignition slightly too far advanced and you break bones with the kickback, too far retarded and you get blisters.

That kick looks a treat on the bike, but just like the control buttons on yer telly, you dont have to use them cos you've got the remote.;)
