Is it possible to chrome plate ally fork legs, yokes etc. or is my only option mirror polishing.

If polishing is my only option then what is the best way to protect it ??

It is possible, but I wouldn't do it.

I prefer to polish on my bench machine, and then I "protect" it with Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Autoglym High Gloss Polish.

It very slightly dulls down the mirror finish, but, it really does protect the metal and only needs the occassional wipe over and even less occassional re-treatment with the Autoglym stuff.

The added benefit is the High Gloss stuff puts a very low friction surface on the items which is excellent for repelling water and dirt, and also helps prevent damage to the fork seals by making super-slippery legs.

When done, items are hard to hold due to this low friction.

Works on paint and chrome as well.
