Hi guys! Hey Nick! Long time no speak.....! Just browsing through WHSmithies yesterday and had my usual gander at the biker section. Well, what can I say Nick, another beauty to add to your collection! Karina is gowgeous! Plus, she's a lovely girl to chat to!
Anywaaaaay.... Thought I'd buy a bike for the Summer so took it upon myself to train it down to Swindon (from Holywell) to pick up a Yam XJ 650 Midnight Maxim. Great ride, nice pick-up although made a mad whistling sound passing 80 mph.... 2 weeks later, 'CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK ....... BAAAAAANG'. IT PARTIALLY DIED AT THE SIDE OF THE DUAL CARRIAGE WAY ON MY WAY HOME. I was absolutely gutted. Sold it for spares/repairs... It started 1st time everytime but didn't tick over (mechanic diagnosis was poor and expensive so didn't take the matter any further, toooo much stress), until the poor buyer came along and tested it. Mind you, he knocked off £50 from the bill when it failed to start and went away with a pretty-looking, COMPLETELY DEAD bike! ...... Now, I have a hairdryer. CONFESSION TIME. Get this - 'YiYing 125' what the f$%* is that?????? Bought it VERY cheaply just to get me from A-B. I couldn't find any insurance for it, so I looked at online pay-as-you-go-monthly insurances who specialise in imports that nobody has ever heard of! Ebike or something. Thing is, don't hate me for this, I HAVE to ride it to and from work (thank GOD for helments to disguise my embarrassed look). It's awful but it goes. Am I fogiven everybody???? x

Keep an eye on the condition of the scoot. If it is anything like my lads Chinese bike it will be lucky to see 6 months before something breaks or fails in some way. There is a reason why they are so cheap and hard to insure. I must congratulate you on your choice of insurer though as I use E-Bike Insurance and get full comp for around £97.00 for my 500 Single.

Pity about the Maxim I think they are nice bikes. I agree that you will be lucky if the chinese bike lasts long, however a lot of the problem with them is that they are made for little people, you may be lucky but poor old Jo Brand would soon have trouble with one.
If you have been riding Jap bikes then you will have to learn to keep it under about 45mph, push them much more than that and bits burn out or fall off.
I'm of the school that thinks it doesn't matter what you ride, we can't all afford the latest top of the range model, and if you don't have the ability to patch up a big old rat bike you have to buy what you can afford. The fact that you ride puts you on level pegging with the rest of us.
Good luck and ride safe.

Fully agree with you there mate, rode everything from a Honda 50 Chicken Chaser to a Ducati 900 Monster and VFR400RR and loved them all.

Thanks guys! It's only 2 years old and already the black battery cable has rusted due to improper fitting 'waterproof' casing. LOL! It's an absolute mess. My little one could make a better bike from lego and it would last longer. Yep, we can't all go around on the best but I can carry on dreaming. . . You're correct about going over 45; it really does mess it up. I can't believe these low-grade machines are even available to us! Yet I did buy it and yes, I'm not blameless. I am grateful that it moves and gets me from a - b (even if it does take 10 minutes to start it after fiddling with all he bloody cables first.). Hope it lasts another year. Methinks it's time to flog on ebay? What do you think I'd get guys and gals? £200 - £300? Is that just wishful thinking too? x:unsure:
HI NICK!!!!!

If it is only cable problems, chop them out and replace them, cheaper than buying new (second-hand) scoot which may be worse. Earth cable can be purchased online and perhaps one of the guys near to you could crimp some ends on for you. Wouldn't cost more than £10-15......:thumbu:

SOLD...SOLD.....SOLD.....!!!!
Got rid of the moped.
Looking at a kawazaki GPZ 500. Bit smaller and not as powerful as the bike I really wanted....
Anybody know much about the reliability of these bikes and would you class 30,000 miles as a timb-bomb waiting to blow???? Seen one I'm interested in and the reviews seem great but something is telling me to stay the hell away from it.... ????
SUGGESTIONS IF YOU'RE BORED. ; )
O, did you guys see this on fb?

A GPZ500 should be pretty much bomb proof, 250cc per cylinder, looks like a sports bike rides like a tourer, slim enough for traffic, should go all day without any problem and 30,000 miles is just run in.
If you like it and the price is right go for it.
Just my opinion.
(opinions are like arseholes everyone has a different one)

GPZ500....great little bike....only real flaw can be the alternator rotor, magnets have the habit of coming unstuck......best of luck with it :woohoo:
