Just bought a complete 1100ET top end (well, head an' cams n' stuff) for £100 delivered. Soon as it gets here, can offer it up to the 1428 motor I've had sat around for years.

Still got a couple o' other options on the boiler too. :)

I,m not familiar with that model but if it fits and the cavity is smaller you should increase compression and end up with a real beast, a bit like years ago when we had the heads skimmed.

Nik, I hate to say this but you've been itching to get your hands on that bike for a long time haven't you? :D

Been thinking about this, Grav, and I can't see what you mean. How is going from a stock 1100 ESD to a hybrid 1428 with a full race bottom end (welded and balanced crank. straight cut gears, lock-up clutch etc) a devolution?

John, yeah, it should be a bit of an animal - messing around with the ignition timing will give it loads of bottom end. Should be a right giggle. :)

It's a Rat/Survival bike and as such it takes the opposing position from the norm. Normal bikes Evolve from standard to ever increasing shiny bling, so it is only fair to summise that Rat Bikes Devolve.;)

dev⋅o⋅lu⋅tion

–noun
1. the act or fact of devolving; passage onward from stage to stage.

And if we expand on this; Evolution, in Darwinian terms, is about survival of the fittest, whereas you riding a bike is just about survival :D

Excellent point, Cap'n. :D

I would have said that evolution applies to rats and survivalists more than any other kind of bike. And it is evolution - changing from one thing to something more suited to purpose, rather than devolution which implies changing from one thing to something less suited to purpose.

:)

Devolution happened in politics and for better or worse, the people have more of a say in Scotland and Wales now than ever before. Some would call that Evolution too, but when it is applied to Rat/Survival Bikes Devolution fits perfectly. The exception rather than the rule, the transport for a post apocalyptic world where society has taken a step back or to one side on the evolutionary pathway.

I think it has evolved, It doesn't look like anything that came out of a factory, I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen riding it.
