hi there,
trying to find a little info out for a mate,
he was running a trike, registered on a q plate, metro auto rear engined and on the v5 it has the model down as metro
the gearbox failed and he decided just to chop the engine subframe off at the rear and replace with a beetle torsion setup and engine...
can he just change the metro on the v5 to beete or vw,or will the whole trike need a sva done?
the main frame is still as it was with the metro setup?
thanks:D
It probably wouldn't get through a new MOT as either.
If it doesn't say Tricycle on the log book you're fecked now.
So its SVA time.

id leave well alone. if its registered with a log book and has been done correctly, i wouldnt go poking the beast that is the dvla with a stick. change the engine, and register the new cc and engine number on the log book. but dont go digging yourself a hole for the dvla to bury you in.

hi john,
so you would suggest just changeing the engine number and capacity on the log book and leaving it as that?
my mate is just worried about the model being down as metro when it is now obviously a volkswagen... grey area i think lol

just because the engie is out of a different vehicle shouldnt matter ! if you put a kwaka engine in a suzuki frame it doesnt become a kwak, does it ?

No grey area at all. Johnr is right. Somewhere near the bottom of the vehicle spec on the V5c, it should state something like 'rebuilt modified vehicle' or similar words. That covers a multitude of sins. Just change the engine number and forget about make or model. If his V5c said , 'Metro saloon trike', he'd have something to worry about.

my trike is a raymar, never heard of them? you wont, the original builders kids were ray and maria, hence the name, yet the trike is a bmw boxer engine and frame with a welded on trike conversion. once its been done, you can change the motor or box for whatever you want. you will need to tell dvla though or else it will come up on the computer at mot time.
