That's about it. If your bike's down for that long, then you should be considering storage/scrap/fixing it. Just don't keep it on the road without tax.
I'm sure there is or was some loophole about covered bikes and plod not being allowed to uncover it to check the plate or tax disc. Someone else might clue you up on that here.
Fortunately, it is more effective against chavs and their untaxed "souped-up" (Halfords bin-lid exhaust bolt-on kit) Peugots parked outside somebody elses house.
If it's on the road it needs to be taxed, MoT'd and insured (even if it has no engine) otherwise the Old Bill can have you by the short n' curlies. ;)

Well, you could put it on a trailer and park that on the road, that should solve the problem.:D

Mmmm, I'd heard about that as well... tales of scooter riders parking on pavements in London, slipping a carrier bag over the reg. plate so it can't be read and then traced, and the keeper prosecuted... :thumbu:
Used to do it myself, helmet bag over the plate and the tax disc hidden (some some people forget). Not allowed to touch the bike or any covering.
Same with parkign on private land, they can bleat, threaten and yell, but if they don't have the right equipment (in case they damage it) they cant touch it...

sorry to piss parade, but if its on the road and untaxed they dont have to trace you, just crush it.

It all sounds like an urban myth to me.
The crime is "Failure to display a valid tax disc"
If you cover it it aint on display is it?
Some years ago a mate of mine was done cos the tax disc on his car fell off the screen onto the floor where the traffic warden could not see it.
He was done for yup you guessed it. "Failure to display a valid tax disc"
The trailer idea might work though!

To try to cover everything...
If you park a vehicle on the road without tax, insurance or MoT, then you run the risk of having it destroyed.
The police and local authority through the DVLA have the power to remove the vehicle. After 14 days, they can scrap it. They don't have to tell you about it either.
If you try to cover the tax disc, you are failing to display a valid tax disc which carries a FPN of £30.
If you SORN the vehicle and it is on the road, you run the risk of having it crushed, a big fine and a back payment of any period between being caught and the last time it was expired. On the road effectively means anywhere the public can get to, including any allocated parking area outside your house.
If you keep it on private land it must be taxed or SORN'd. All registered vehicles must be one or the other. Failure to do so can result in a fine. If you don't pay or ignore the fine, then the bailiffs can come and have the vehicle, private land or not.
If you put it on a trailer on the public road, then a road-legal vehicle must be connected to it at all times, otherwise it's the crusher.
Finally, non of the above involves you visiting any court rooms so don't have a pop at me.
