Seeing as you've had little responce I'm gonna put me neck on the line here a bit. I don't mean to offend at all but

I think we're all pretty much aware and united against child abuse anyway. Monies raised for childrens shelters isn't a bad thing but aren't they a thing the past?

I am more than willing to stand and be corrected at this point.

Just a note to say that this is only my own opinion and I'm in no way speaking for everyone on this forum

The UK site is still under construction.
For info on USBUACA, try

http://www.bacausa.com/default.aspx

I've got my own opinions as to whether this will transfer to the uk.

Pretty much what Freak said really - bikers support lots of childrens charities anyway, I would think the number who would actually want to subscribe to something like that would be limited - but there will prolly be a few, and more power to you for wanting to help.

what's a children's shelter? Is it like a refuge for battered women? And can kids just go there without parental consent and will social workers get involved?

sounds like a refuge for kids could be a good idea, and I speak from experience when I say I would have loved to have a bolt hole to escape to when I was a kid, somewhere where I wouldn't have to worry about social services being involved, somewhere with responsible adults who'd look after you for a while, until the home situation got sorted

problem is how to get this service to kids under a certain age?

the thing about abuse is that other family members don't realise what's going on cos the parents keep it so well hidden, act normal etc

and little kids know nothing about social services, I didn't even think about telling my teachers

[child line is a big help, wish I'd had that, although in those days I didn't have access to a phone]

what I mean is, how would little kids know about it?

we should advertise child line more, and have special teachers in schools - from nursery age - who can spot abuse and help families

but apart from that I'm always interested in helping out kids in peril, kids have no rights at all in this country, and parents do what they like to them, it needs to be changed and I'll support any organisation willing to bring about change

so count me in

Yeah, me too m8 - I'd be happy to suscribe and put a couple of $ towards a good children's cause.

Happy to support anything to do with kids - especially if it helps the kids in this country. I'm a great believer in tidying up your own back yard first!

theres lots of ways to help the kids out
one of the ways we are adopting from the aussies is to visit kids who have or are being abused, the kid is presented with a denim waistcoat with the BUACA patch on the front, then make it known the kid is now a member of the BUACA familey, you f**K with this kid you F**K with us
we also plan to asign 2 bikers to each kid, the kids can phone 24/7 and will have assistance or a shoulder etc
these are just a couple of the planned exercises
and were open to any ideas
so its up to those who are interested
we all know it goes on, lets do something to help
WHATEVER IT TAKES

Just a quick question, and bear with me, but do the people taking part have to have a full background check done ?

It does seem a great idea. and im all for helping kids, but if no checks are done, the system may well be open to abuse, and those who need help the most may not get what they expected.

Just my thoughts, thats all.

everyone and i mean everyone has to have a full police search done
the usa and australian chapters check for abuse against children
as we will, but we have also included and abuse or assault on women
infact any kind of sexual orientated crime.

...... kids have no rights at all in this country .......

You know, I didn't think this was right, so I went looking for the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - and what did I find?

Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), adopted in 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly, sets out the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people under the age of 18. The CRC does not give enforceable rights directly to individual children, but imposes obligations on states to bring their rights into national law. In the 14 years of its existence the CRC has become the most widely adopted human rights instrument with 192 states parties. The UK ratified it in December 1991.

What use is that then??????????

well we aim to give the kids there right to sleep soundly
not to be afraid, piece of mind, and a shoulder if they need one
we can make a differance if we work together

yeah put me down cobra, for definite, don't mind having the checks either, I passed em for teaching in '96 and I'm sure I ain't been naughty since then..... :)

hey bikergran, it's shocking ain't it, even though I didn't know about kids' rights in eyes of the law, if you just think about it they have none, no rights about where to live or who to live with, what to study at school, what sports to do at school, what to wear at school, no rights over their bodies (re Drs hospitals, medicines etc, no dignity, no privacy, no choice about what to eat, what to wear, where to go, who to visit, who to be friends with etc etc no wonder they rebel as teenagers. Hopefully most parents are good parents and insist on basic human rights for their kids, and only make rules for safety, but there are kids who are treated worse then the family pets, and the kids cannot do anything about it :(

btw
what does ratified mean??

I agree with a lot of what has been said here.

As a small business we do our bit to help charities and childrens groups etc.

We already put a lot of effort into giving to best service to our less profitable clients (check www.cossackrun.co.uk (http://www.cossackrun.co.uk) for one of many).

I would like to offer you congratulations for taking this on & best of luck with it !!!

That's the businessmans opinon.

My personal opinion is kill the fuckers, bollox to prison, just cut the fuckers up !!!!

Yes, I am speaking from experience, I am guy that beat the ****e out of Ian Huntley before they caught him !!!

........kids have no rights at all in this country.......

Firstly, regards kids that are actually being abused, mistreated, etc, I totally go along with protecting them, organising a charity/organisation to look after them! Credit to CS and I applaud the efforts you are making! (I have been heavily involved in the past with a childs charity and it's bloody hard work and takes a lot of time and effort)

BUT,I have to disagree with the above statement,(dont take offence Doro,we all have differing views, experiences, etc). Kids have more rights now than we ever did as children! You litterly cannot say BOO! to a child in this day and age without fear of reprisal from social services or the police, probably not the best example to use regards what the thread is about but you know what I mean.

Childrens Act 2004 (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2004/20040031.htm)

This is an emotive subject, specially as a lot of us are parents with our own experiences both as child and parent,so will leave it at that as I could say LOADS more regards the above statement.
