Much as I love pussy cats I know you have been having a big problem with them in your garden.
This morning I got a plant catalogue from Thompson and Morgan who I have often bought things from in the past cos they are really good.
They claim to have developed a new plant which cats, dogs and foxes absolutely detest - apparently they can't bear the smell of it and wil avoid gardens that have it. It is called Scardy Cat or by it's latin name "Coleus canina" (variegated) ans is quite pretty so won't look bad in the garden.
It's £17.99 for 20 plants.

Good luck! Apparently the RSPB recommend it! :)
thanks for thinking of us Mrs R
but they're telling fibs
this stuff has been around for years and it's usually called cat scat
it's actually a houseplant and doesn't do well in the cold or the wet
stevie's friend fran gave me some but the cats didn't mind it then the plants died from rot :(
it's from the same family as coleanthus which is a well known purple leaved houseplant which is dead easy to grow and propagate
pity it doesn't work
but then, we think these cats aren't like normal cats, nothing scares them and they don't bury their poops, most cats are clean, but not these

Oh bugger what crap - they'd probably do ok down here where the weather is always mild!
Cats don't bury their crap when they feel threatened by other cats, they leave it out as a 'warning'. Our cats started doing it when a big fat tabby terrorised them. Feckin' pain in the bum as me and Mitch were always falling arse over tit in the stuff!!!:D
Get a big dog!
ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
mrs R you are trying to be so helpful, but we already got a big dog, she keeps them out of the back ok but the front is open plan, the gardens on either side make mine a kind of triangle shape at the entrance so can't really fit a gate, and can't fence t'other side cos the bungalow which they squashed into the corner have a right of access
so can't leave doggy in front bit
but gypsy's upside down wire cage effect seems to be working so far
it's just chicken wire stretched across garden at a height of about 2'
cats don't like walking on it never mind stopping long enough to poop
what really annoys me tho is that I get fined if I don't clean up after my dog, but cats get away with everything :(
if she was a decent neighbour she'd offer to clean it up herself, or keep the cats in overnight
thank-you for thinking of it tho missus :o

I used to have 4 cats and my next door neighbour had "cat phobia" and was horrified at the idea of my cats he did not want them in his garden !!. :( I told him I appreciated that he not like cats but asked him to please not hurt them by throwing stones, but that I was quite happy for him to hose them with a garden hose or to shoot at them with a water pistol or washing up bottle filled with water....
Soon after we moved in each one of them came in soaked to the skin. After a week or so they got the message. I lived there 7 years and none of them went in his garden again. You should have seen the lengths they went to to avoid it!!! :D
Good luck
well strider, lotsa people suggested that, so will have to go and look
*ponders*
believe it or not baglady, the folk on the other side of this neighbour tried the water gun method, and got told by the council they weren't allowed to do it..!!
(they live in a council house so they have to do as they're told or risk eviction)

I think if you give them permission to do it, that would be different than if they just did it. I recommended a water pistol to someone whose own cat kept scratching the furniture in their bedroom - it worked, but she says they have to 'reinforce' it now and then!

Buy a gun.
but learn to shoot targets in the garden/shed. So you can pull off a headshot to kill outright. there's no need to be cruel, i wounded a rabbit once then it got away, I felt so bad.
-DISCLAIMER-
Sorry if I've offended anyone, and I think probably you shouldn't shoot cats (even though they are ****) so don't hate me.
