As anyone ever built or thought about building an electric trike, bike or scooter ?
I have been thinking of an electric trike, how to go about building one, converting one, what sort of motor would be used etc..any ideas ?

The best, as in most versatile option I've seen is a diesel generator and electric motor set up on a ts125 chasis, advantage - longer range than batteries, no recharge stops. diadvantage - might as well go diesel powered unless you are good with electrickery.
Batterys are very limited on range and are heavy and need long recharge times, modern gel filled batteries or laptop type ones are much better but boy do they cost:rolleyes:
I think Hacky may have built something electric a while back (Gs550?), but I could be mistaken. Try searching the forum
That's only my oppinion though, I've not built one yet though I'm slowly collecting bits for a diesel bike which should engoy good economy. I'd put the first priority as low weight a electrick bike, rather than a trike which might well be heavyer................

its batterys that hold back the electric car, you can either have blistering performance, for a few seconds or minutes, or slow progress for longer. factor in the simple truth that any battery used will be killed pretty soon by repeated charge discharge cycles and high speed discharges, and then factor in the problem of the cold killing them too. it seems almost impossible to imagine the future of the electric car without the use of a hydrogen fuel cell. and they arent exactly cheap or plentyful yet. good economy and more practical and usable vehicles would be better based round using the good old diesel engine, and making it light with as little rolling resistance as poss.
on the subject of diesel engines, anyone want to buy a lister/petter 6bhp/4kva generator set? its a model AC1 and ex mod, so very low hours. ideal for your derv bike or even for your electric powered thingy!!!:D

yup hacky does have an electric bike...still sat in the garden needing finishing....
only cos its being built on a zero budget...still waiting to find an apropriate speed controller..
its based on a gsx 250..running 6 gel batteries..
if your interested in the progress so far,pm me and ill send what i have...
got the gearing sorted to do about 70 mph..but the battery range is only about 30 miles...so im now looking at a home -made fuel cell system...

NO I've had a rethink........
consider this........ Trike frame....stonking big V8 engine. ( for the noise) ...to a
generator...to a lecky motor...belt driven to the diff/gearbox........only problem I can see
would I have to fit ...right hand throttle for the V8...and a scalectrix speed control for lecky motor???.......suggestions welcome .............
OOPS !!! time for my medication .......
