Yellow Trike 4.8 litre Desperate Dan
The very last trike to leave the Desperate Dan workshop in 2000. Passed the SVA and registered in November 2001.
Range Rover 3.9 litre engine originally, re-built by CTM Performance, Ilford, Essex to fast road specification, which entailed:
4.8 litre stroker conversion (larger crankshaft for more torque), unleaded conversion, up-rated oil pump, fast road camshaft, full balance and many other add ons too numerous to list here!
RPI Engineering four barrel webber carb. jetted to suit.
SAS Performance performed a Dyno test and engine peaks at 287 BHP, with 314 lbf-ft
BMW 4 speed automatic gearbox, XJS rear axle. Custom made stainless steel winged-shaped fuel tank, large capacity. Radiator fitted at the rear of the trike. The coolant runs through the framework, so no ugly pipes!
Immobiliser, steering damper and alarm. MOT until June 2009.
Stonking Custom wheels from USA, 3 spoke swept, aluminium. Rear tyres fitted only last year (less than 1000 miles since fitted).
2 stainless steel storage boxes beneath the very comfortable bench seat. Stainless steel luggage rack fitted beneath the fuel tank. Wheelie bars for show (!) but very handy as extra luggage rack. The bars can be removed to use the fitted tow bar.
Brand new battery fitted in August 2008.
Starts and runs extremely well.
Could benefit from tidying up e.g. painting the rocker covers and engine (because I ride it through the winter!)
I have enjoyed 7 years of wonderful fun triking on this machine (and 4 years before on another Desperate Dan trike) and yearn for 2 wheels again (wife won't let me have both!).
