Troubled liner limps back to port
Passengers have paid up to £42,000 for the P&O cruise
The troubled luxury liner Aurora is returning to England after P&O cancelled its ill-fated world cruise.
The ship has turned back to Southampton after repairs to the propulsion motor proved unsuccessful, the company said.
The £200m liner had left the port on Wednesday night to undergo tests and finally set sail after a 10-day delay.
Aurora is expected to be back in Southampton by midnight on Thursday and the passengers will disembark on Friday morning.
Bloody French cant build a ship to save their lives.
They even fecked up on the Queen Mary 2.....

there just does'nt seem to be any pride in this country, when contracts are handed to the french to build prestigious cruise liners. how could the french beat tenders from the uk? christ they must have the shortest working week in europe! how can their overheads be lower than uk shipbuilders? i dunno... it just sucks :(

Mrs R says:
What nutter with more money than sense would pay that much for a cruise????
I can think of 100's of ways more gratifying to spend £42,000, bikes, doing up the house, generally running amok!
HUW
I thought that as well
time for a google check
Germans are damn good engineers, like the scots and the geordies
hee hee lets all generalise
anyway it was obviously jinxed when the bottle failed to break, had that nasty bug on one of it's voyages
time to re-name and re-launch it, after they've had the voodoo doctor in to lift the curse............
from the P&O Cruises website...
built by
Meyer Werft Shipyard, Germany
:D
I think the French just launched her, which was what has caused the jinx, which doesn't fare well for the new giant airbus
which I am 100% against due to the effect on the environment, global warming etc, even though I like flying, and flying abroad, we should be doing it less wif smaller planes that use less fuel, or go by road, boat or train
last thing we should do is build giant planes to use more fuel
not that any of us could ever afford to go in it, like concorde
but at least concorde had class..!! :o

Did anyone see the documentary about the building of her?
Absolute amazing piece of engineering - it's a real shame that it's had such a bad run of luck.
If I had excessive amounts of money spare , I would love to cruise around the world on such a ship. Unfortunately my missus hates boats and boaters , so it'd have to be after her untimely passing.

The French DON'T have to budget in another 50% to cover the cost of stuff knicked off site mate, thats the difference. :D

Erm,I don't wish to start but, the whole airbus idea is to carry more using less fuel,is it not ?
One big plane carryin' lots will surely burn less fuel than several smaller ones carryin' the same,no ?
Gypsy

the new airbus uses 11000 more gallons of fuel to go about 400 miles less than the 747
Yeah but how much more does it carry?
well blackpig you'd think that would be the case
but these big planes are hard to fill
it would only work out like that if it only flew when full.
also it's 25% LESS efficient than the other big planes, but it doesn't carry 25% more people
I reckon we are going to run out of fossil fuels in less than 30 years, and 10 years from now the supply is going to be greatly reduced. We've gone way past the time where we shoud be actively encouraging the use of alternatives, one day we're all going to have to change our way of living, unfortunately we've already left it too late :(
(I have researched this, it's not a guess, more an informed prediction, like weather forcasting)
trouble is scientists know all this, but governments are hiding it
like mobile phone dangers (another controversial subject)

dont quote me on this but i think it was about 555 peeps compared to about 470 :D
Yeah but they might be really big, really heavy people with lots and lots of bags? :o
and they don't even know if it can fly, apparently it has never been in the air yet
so far it's been one big publicity stunt for Britain and French governments

there is another new plane in the making which will travel between any 2 airports, which they consider will save somewhere in the region of 20% of their total fuel usage due to not having to make detours to refuel and also not having to go thro all the malarky of sitting on runways for 2 hrs waiting for slots
and it's a lot smaller
doro and gypsy......discussers of planes and boats :D
interesting tell me, I have an old sopwith camel I was thinking of firing up.
If I load two adults who both weigh 150 llbs and are carrying 3 bags of 43.75 kilos, travelling 66 knots with a headwind of 4.22 mph, in opposite directions.........will I look witty?

sorry you have missed your slot . . .please get to the back of the q and wait :D
dont quote me on this but i think it was about 555 peeps compared to about 470 :D
apparently the plane is capable of carrying 800 passengers, but only if they're crammed in like cattle, so no leg room or bar or cinema or 1st class cabins..!!
biggest problem will be getting it to fit into airports. It is at the absolute maximum of the allowed size by the air traffic laws.

there was some problem too about the fact there are only a few terminals able to take the airbus and that they are having to rebuild some of them :D
point taken, I'll shut me trap......slam

dont quote me on this but i think it was about 555 peeps compared to about 470 :D when push comes to shove (no pun intended) the whole thing will be about squeezing as many bods onto the aircraft as possible. there might be a few flagship carriers that have got the bars and restaurants etc but i think in the more densely populated parts of the world there will be a lot more than 500 on board. airbus have said it has the potential to carry nearly 9 hundred people in 'economy' class

Can't give you a direct example regarding ship fitting, but as we all know the Europeans decide which laws they will follow and which they will ignore, like buying british beef or burning our lamb and Spanish fishing fleets ignoring fishery laws.
However I would agree that we price ourselves out of the market, but I should think that it has nothing to do with theft....

Sounds like you're being serious on this one Sir E......no place for a pisstaking tart like me here then.....
Except for one thing, we need the French to continue being bastids so we have a reasonable case for disliking them?
Well that and another thing, was our price quoted in £'s or Euro's?
