Ello chaps, one of you bods on the forum (the one who told me about this place) already gave me one possible for this problem, but I figured I'd throw it out to the wild to see what other people's opinions are.

My other half has a 2005 Suzi GN125, which I had the pleasure of riding for a couple of weeks until my 125 was sorted out (both of us are only just starting out). Both fortunately and unfortunately, it died the day before I picked mine up while I was riding it.

Was tootling along the road behind some traffic (I live in Brum) and the engine just suddenly cut out on me! I footed it onto the path next to the road and had a look at the fuse (as that had blown on me a few days previous while I was down in Stratford Upon Avon to see my stepmum... fortunately it was the weekend of the Bulldog, so plenty of people to help me then). :thumbsu:

Fuse was fine... tried looking at the wiring I could see and nowt. Only thing I get when I press the starter is a single click, then nothing. Tried push-starting it but nothing again. So ended up walking 3 miles home in torrential rain

matthewmosse (an old RL mate of mine) has suggested it could be frayed wiring under the tank or seat, or at least SOMEWHERE in the system - given that it's blown a fuse once before recently.

Any ideas?

If all you get is a "click" when you press the starter button, then that suggests you're not getting enough current to turn the starter.

Check the battery voltage with a meter, clean and tighten the battery leads. Don't forget to check and clean where the earth connects to the frame as well.

And I do mean actually take the leads off and clean the connecting surfaces not visually inspect them...

Charge the battery if it needs it, refit it.

Try it.

If it starts and the battery was flat put the meter across the battery with the engine running to check if it's charging.

Quick update:

Had a look about with a couple of people who know wtf they're doing (me mum and me stepdad), and we found one of the main problems, if not the only one.

Looks like a valve misfired, opening while the piston was on the way UP the engine... piston smacked into it, and debris rattled around causing the spark plug to shatter at the end.

All in all one messy result!

We've sent off an email to a breakers website, and are waiting back for responses - gonna be easier just to get a whole new engine we reckon (for time and ease fer both of us).

Ouch! :eek:your right, an engine that does that is toast:( Still, an engine swap is fairly easy on a gn and as its the same motor top ends off most single cylinder suzuki 125's 4 stokes will fit. That desighn of motor is 25 years old and hasn't changed much. Even the top end off a kickstart motor (gs/dr125fits) engines do come up on ebay sometimes and if you get problems finding one, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Good luck and let us know how it progesses..........
