Raising handlebars

Hi all, thinking about the possibility of raising the handlebars on the sv, as I have started suffering with numb hands - which I put down to the accidents I've had over the years, the damp weather and my body not feeling as sprightly as it once did...

I have been out looking at other styles of bikes, the supermotards are just too tall (even for me with my long legs!), the MT-03 I have been told are fab around town but gutless on the open road (I have been a v-twin rider for many many years now), and it will disappoint.

So I have been pushed towards the Faser, the Bandit or Honda Hornet...which made me ponder the idea of just getting the sv handle bars raised instead.

Now - would this change the handling drastically, is it expensive, what do I have to buy in order for it to happen??

wot bars are on there now m8, i.e. clip ons or has the sv got risers etc?
you can but many an option to raise the bars if you have riser etc on already.
Also if you have clip ons you can buy raised clip ons which are a little higher.

As far as I am aware (and that's not much when it comes to tech stuff), they are the standard handlebars, I will go and read the manual to find out if, they are the same spec for the bar risers from Just Bandits.

Whack a pair o' Renthals on there; they're well comfy (wouldn't have owt else on me Bandit) and look OK too.

If they're clip-ons you've got on there at the mo, no problem - you can just drill the top yoke, fit risers and then slap the Renthals on.

have to agree...got renthals on me 550ltd...and wouldnt go back,so much comfier and feels more responsive...:)

if your suffering from numb hands etc have you looked at the poss of bike performance, i.e. bar end weights, front wheel balanced ok etc?
When i fiorst bought my 1200 bandit i rode it home and my hand was numb due to front wheel not been balanced at all, lol.
Just felt like something banging on the bars as the wheel rotated.

That depends on the top yoke.

More accurately, while you can drill all top yokes, some of them are horribly thin and dont have cast in bosses either.

I think you'd tend to feel rather stupid/a lot of pain were the whole lot to come off in your hands...

i suffer from numb hands as well. i found if i turned the handel bars back a few degrees that sorted the problem for a year or so. Now its got worse i have changed my bike and riding style, got a triumph thunderbird with higher bars and its been ok the last two years.
Raising the handel bars means longer cables and brake and clutch pipes, but if you love your bike its worth shelling out a bit of the brass to get it right.
Found the bandit great fun with the renthals on but watch it when you ride through the gate, black n blue knuckels aint mutch fun. :)
