Ok guys and gals...can u help?

Some of you may or may not know that I am a qualified English Teacher and have recently left teaching in 16+ colleges...

Well I have been considering re-training to teach in the Primary sectory for some time and have bitten the bullet and decided to apply to the Graduate Teaching Programme (through Leeds City Council) to just that.

However, I need to get 5 days (at least 1 of them before actually applying!) in a Primary School - sitting in on classes, helping out etc etc, before my application will be considered.

Ok, I'm doing the usual, updating my CV, writing a covering letter, etc etc to mail out to local (and not so local) Primary Schools but, it's a long and slow process and I wondered if anyone can help...

Do any of you work in, or have good contacts in, a Primary School in the North, East, or West Yorkshire area that might be able to help? Of course, anytime spent in school would be entirely voluntary and to meet the requirements for my application...

I am well qualified - Degree in English, PGCE (post 16), and a Masters Degree in Education and would be willing to email/post copies of certs, CV, covering letter etc etc.

If any of you CAN help (or think you might be able to), I would be forever grateful...

I can be contacted by email (proper one):

johnstuart@postmaster.co.uk

or (silly one) but probably not very enticing to headteachers who might be willing to give me a hand!:

prince_of_darkness@postmaster.co.uk

or by telephone (email me for the numbers)

Cheers folks - here's hoping

John

Yeah, considered that...

My son's school is 60 miles away (he lives with his mum), and while the distance needn't be a problem, I've had past clashes with his Headteacher (oops), so might not be the best place to ask ....if ya know what I mean!

:D :D

But thanks....I appreciate the input

Hi folks

Just ta let ya know...

Had a day in a local primary school today - the one I needed to get in before sending the GTP application off...

Had a great time working with Year 2 kids (6 & 7 year-olds) in the morning and Year 1 (5 & 6 year-olds) in the afternoon. Also have been invited back to allow me to get my other 4 required days in sometime between now and September (Just hope I get a place on the GTP programme now...there's not many places up for grabs! If I don't, well, I guess I'll have to find another way in.)

Anyway, I survived the day and it heightened my resolve to succeed in this.

What's more - not only did I survive but was able to work with the kids doing everything from English (my subject) & maths, spelling, reading, PE and even dance (yep - I said 'dance') .

Great fun and the kids were great.

Anyway, just thought I'd let ya know how it went and to say another 'thanks' to those of you that tried to help with my original request....

Cheers folks...much appreciated.
