gs or other suzi 125's are reliable and go ok. If you want better handling and more power a kwak KH125 was my first, wheelid in first 2 gears, way faster than a 4 stroke same size and I probably pushed it futher than I ever rode it:D So good I still own it. Just make sure you buy a good un cos the manuals are a bastid to get hold of and I cann't find a mechanic who can fix it properly. Ps mine only went bad when a 'mate' broke the 2 stroke oil feed pipe during a failed prank and didnt tell me until After the engine was dead. All bikes tend to resent a lack of oil.........

But buying a plastic then means it doesn't matter if you drop/crash it. I took my test on a Marauder 125 (great bike) but that proved to make the test harder than it needed to be, as a cruiser style bike tends to need more effort to do the manouvers.

I'd go over 15 years old for the cheap insurance and parts. Just be careful to get something thats not too abused and see if someone on the forum who's close by you can help out by looking over the bike with you. Also whilst older bikes still try the custom styling thing, the changes are genrally more cosmetic so handling isn't compromised. Other thing I'd say is don't rely on low milage to indicate reliability, bad maintenence can kill a small bike very fast, my old gs was on a y (1982?) plate and stil good after 30,000 miles when I sold it. 100mpg, and cheap on tyres, parts etc. If properly set up a 2 stroke is more go but many 'L' plate size ones get tuned, often kills them fast so standard is the way to go. Both gs and I think sr 125's really hate lack of oil so rattling top ends are a absolute no no, on a 2 stroke top end rebuild is routine and £70 sorts most out.
Is the cg motor of similar pedigree to the c90 cub? those things just won't die.

Two years fun on one of these untill mi test... Got me and wife from London to Lincoln a couple of times no problems (except the 55mph top speed - down hill with the wind behind you)...

Used to get me and all my gubbins (alot of camping/ event stuff) to events alright too - including a 350 mile round trip to south wales.

But as I said before a nightmare on test day!

Also lookout for steering-head bearings...

Hmm basically a gs125 with bad handling and gearing then. Buy jap not chineese, Older bikes seem to be better geared and having ridden some more up to date 125's I'd say there is more useable power on offer on the older bikes. 2 strokes are worth looking at as far as grin factor goes. I spent 2.5 years on a gs125 and couldn't fault it but, well, I always wanted the KH back even though it was unreliable, I geuss it just had more soul man:cool:

Mate of mine has also got the 125 Honda rebel. Its a twin CB 125 engine so plenty spares out there and not a bad engine. Plenty of potential for individualisation and cheep to run.
