View Full Version : Anyone using a Scottoiler?

Had one for years, now got the double injector, and very happy with it.
HOWEVER,I've a wee problem, every time I stop after a run oil drips from the front sprocket cover.I've changed the gearchange shaft oil seal and it and the clutch pushrod & layshaft seals don't seem to be weeping at all.Could it be that the Scottoil is being flung off the chain as it goes round the small front sprocket at speed, and that's what's dripping? It's not constant, but it's worst when the engine heats up (obviously,as the oil will get less viscous at high temp...).
Has anyone else experienced this?

I find if I set it over 2 oil gets everywhere and yes it does seem to collect around the front sproket cover but I have never seen it dripping, then again I only have the standard one feed.

Cheers.I'm gonna have a look under the sprocket cover tomorrow, see if any of the seals are leaking (again!).

I used the double feed Scottoiler on my CBR1000F for years and never seen drips from the front sprocket.

I had mine set so that there was just the very odd splash catching the sidewall of the rear tyre.

I did get a small amount of oil under the rear sprocket when parked overnight though.

Perhaps if you cut down the feed a wee bit?

I might be using the wrong, less viscous, oil. There's a fair bit of oil on the back of the numberplate in line with the chain,so I know it is getting thrown off.I'll turn it down so it's nearly off and see if that makes a difference.

Found the problem, and have promptly made it worse.........
Turns out the clutch pushrod seal was to blame, not immediately obvious tho'.
So,having a spare one sitting,I renewed it,but I musta nicked the edge when driving it home (it's either that way or split the crankcases, bugger that!).It's now pishing oil like the Exxon Valdez........
I've ordered 2 (one spare in case I fuck up again) from Wemoto, but I'm thinking a judicious application of silicon gasket might do the trick in the short term.
As Grav sez,"It never fuckin' ends!"

Try filling the gearbox with cat litter (unused) that will hold the oil in till you fix the seal.

I would say welcome back, but after that comment I'll say FUCK OFF!:D
Problem's fixed now,got a new seal from Wemoto, fitted it up,no leaks (from the gearbox at least, the cam cover's still leaking but "they all do that, sir")

Pyros top tip of the month, if you use a Scott oiler add a bit of slick 50 to the oil (about 10%) makes the chain last much longer.....
