It's just not fair, I've started a diet and suddenly there's an influx of food related threads.

So combining the two issues

What are your odd dietry tips for losing weight

ie Dont put butter on your breakfast cereal

You can eat broken biscuits as the calories have fallen out.

But seriously, Make sure your freezer is in good working order, as it's a bugger when you have to eat stuff cos it defrosted...

Miss.
Eating stuff.

I've been trying to lose weight for over a year :( but it just keeps going up :(

anyway my diet tips are

eat less (seriously, put less on yer plate, use a smaller plate even)

cut out all sugar

cut out all processed food

try to reduce potatoes (and all other root veg) and white food ie have brown bread, brown pasta and brown rice

don't fry anything

sorted

best exercises are:

1. use the bottom stair in yer house, step onto the stair wif both feet (one at a time) step off again, do this until you're puffed out - good effective free aerobic exercise.

2. to get toned,

do sit ups for abs
use bean tins for arms instead of weights.
for thighs, stand with legs slightly apart, bend yer knees slightly (so you're knees are at a sort of 100 degree angle) lower your body so knees are at 80 degrees, then straighten up, hard to describe what I mean, but if you get it, it does wonders for your thigh muscles. raise your arms above your head to increase the work out

do 30 mins exercise everyday. even a 5 mile walk is enough

in 2 weeks you should lose 6lbs doing this, and keep it off.

this way you diet without starving.

i found losing weight was the easy bit, it's keeping the weight off that i used to find tough. my wife joined a fitness club a while ago and signed me up as a guest  i went with some trepidation expecting the place to be full of posturing poseur types, turned out to be nothing like that, so losing weight and keeping it off requires a change (not too drastic mind) in lifestyle.

it's all about the gym with a coupla mates. I'm lazy as sin, but once you go once or twice you really enjoy it, Just started on wednesday, and now i'm planning at least 3 times a week, in between lectures and stuff. if you have a mate that knows how to do stuff properly, get them along to show you the ropes. I go to the uni gym it's not full of posers at all, just regular people with a couple hours to kill. I find about 20 mins warm up on treadmill/cross trainer then 2x10 reps on every machine (alternating between top/bottom half to give your bits some rest) works for me, I'm trying to get fitter and toned, I'm not too fat, maybe a stone off. takes about 2.5 hours to work your way round the gym twice in a group of 3 (me, james and mark, who knows how to do it properly). I think the most important thing is not to be ashamed of lifting small weights! or you'll fuck youself up. I don't eat as much fatty stuff as I did, at least not often, but it's definetly not a diet. If you eat half a pound of lard, but then do twice the exercise to burn it off, you'll still be better off. I see my warmup as "payment" for the well-earned pint of worthingtons I'll have in the bar afterwards!

There is no easy way to diet - it's just die with a 't' on the end :)
I lost 2 stone last year and it felt like pulling teeth, the constant craving for food, the furtive jelly baby binges, the hunger pangs at two in the morning but at the end of the day it was worth it.
I'm about to embark on another 2 stone to get down to final ideal weight for height as recommended by BMA not feckin' nazi fashion magazines! So we who are about to die salute you :D

Hey Mrs R

so do you know what it is for me? I'm 5'2"

used to go by the BMI but now they say that's not always right and you should only go by your waistline as a large waist indicates too much fat round your heart ie bad for your health.

I think the waist measurement is 40" or thereabouts, any bigger than that and you are too fat round the middle, so, I'm getting there

Only put four fish fingers instead of five on your bread and butter, and not too much tomato ketchup. I think the melted cheese on top is likely to be fattening as well.

You can eat as much fruit and veg as you want. No one ever got fat on fruit and veg.
Proccessed food are bad - white bread, pasta, burgers, sausages etc.
Throw away - actually physically put in the bin - frying pan, deep fat fryer, sandwich maker, toaster. Nothing good will ever come from them.
Drink water.
Eat a cereal breakfast - don't worry about milk as full fat is only 4%fat.

Diet fizzy drinks are ok - diet foods are nonsense - they substitute fat calories with carbohydrate calories.
