Marijuana was smoked way back in the stone age. Pipes have been found, made from animal bones, containing traces of burnt ganja. What a result smoke yer gear and then eat the spare ribs when you get the munchies.
Alcahol was as pointed out, rotten fruit. Some fruits ferment naturally as they rot, producing low level alcahol. Theory has it that apples falling into water containers produced the first cider and recognisable brewing process.
