Anyone built a hot rod pickup?

Hi,

Seem like a weird Q?

Just been offered a ford P100 that has been flipped over.Roof squished down.

As I see it I need a pick up as I keep slinging engines/bikes in back of car and it'd be easier if I didn't need to takr seats out first:D

Wondering bout bare bone style based around a ford anglia shape,any ideas?

Anybody know what fits straight on?

Good hot rod building site that ain't all grp bollix?

Save a lot of time and effort, buy and fit to a bike a sidecar of the flatbed chasis variety, build it a deck with loading ramps and removeable sides et viola, one dead easy way of carting non running bikes around plus 4 bolts to undo and plonk on the conventional body if you want to terrorise a passenger:D I had an enjoyable weekend trashing a caravan to get the steel to build my flatbed so it cost me next to nothing to adapt my sidecar in this way:)

Saw one in Reading last night, black with a flame job b ut that was an old ford pop style pickup with an exposed v8

Two hints, try a decently set up one with a good set of leading links, Ok they are ugly but at least you'll still be alive:cool: Second is remember that as a dedicted fan of the sidecar I put it into a hedge twice on my first outing and now keep up with some pretty modern kit on something thats older than me, they just take a bit of getting used to:thumbsu: gotta say a hotrod pick up does sound kinda cool though, come to think of it there's a rotting fourtrak in the field:unsure::cool:

What year P100?

NSRA tends to be older more core (older vehicle based) rod stuff, so if it's a sierra/scorpio style one, may be better off looking more at custom than rod sites. There are also dedicated custom P100 sites, but Google the model base you are looking at.

Cortina style P100?

A Model "A" chassis isn't rocket science. Couple of 3" x 2" ( or 4" x 2") pieces of box section.

Taper the ends, notch and bend them.

Cortina style P100 uses a leaf srpung rear, doddle to mount that. Front suspension is essentially the same as the Mustang II stuff, you could either use the whole "clip" or build the mounts onto the rails.

For a bike hauler, build a longer bed, move the axle back.

Someone somewhere does fibre glass cabs (can't remeber who though...) or building a steel one from scratch wouldnt be the hardest thing in the world ( or the easiest :D)

Ford 32 rails are harder to copy, but more or less doable. I found this..

32 roadster pick up body (£350) grille shell (£50) and the hood or bonnet if you prefer (£100). Again you'd want to lengthen the chassis and move the axle back (a lot harder to do with 32 style rails than the Model A ones I'd think)

You could bolt a some "perimeter" rails to the P100 chassis and plonk a shell and a bed on it if you were looking for an easy out.

I think (but I'm not sure!!!) that if you just re-body a chassis without modifying it, it's SVA exempt.

Depends on your budget/time/enthusiam really.

Just don't get a sidecar.

its got all the glass and panals no front grill its had loads of work done to it bit still needs sills doing and im open to offers /swops its a car i got for parts for my outher one so if you wont a his and hers it could be possable
