Looking at the photograph of Dougies bike at NABD 17 (In Photo's thread),it's got me thinking.Years back,no one would have locked their bike/helmet/leathers etc at rallies but seems to be a necessity these days.Just thought I'd ask for some comments/thoughts on why people think that is,and can we,as a lifestyle group of similar thinking persons,do something about it??:o

I lock my bike up with a chain, don't know why I feel the need to do it... perhaps because the first company I had bike insurance with told me it wasnt insured if it wasnt garaged at night even if I was in the middle of a field.

motorcyclists, yep. Bikers, not if they are bikers, which as we all know isn't just someone who rides a bike/chop/fighter/rice rocket, whatever.
And no,surely we can find a way to police our own,we've done it before

Force of habit. It can be like a war zone round where I live at times.I use 3 locks at home, one on each wheel and one to lock the bike to a bollard.None is expensive, but theyre all different so any opportunist should just feck off and find something more valuable and less secured.

I never lock my bikes, not even with the steering lock.
Sometimes this is because they are not worth the price of a lock, but mostly it's because I am of the opinion that it is not down to me to stop to someone stealing it - it is up to that person not to try!
And I'm insured for theft! :D

at home got a disc lock and steel rope lock plus it's locked away in my back garden or conservatory (used to be in the lounge, lol). Still,it just made me think, seeing it locked at a rally

I've been to rallies in the past (15-20 years ago) where unlocked bikes went walkies,so it ain't new.......

I have never locked the trike, they don't tend to get stolen( according to Mag insurers ). I do lock the Harley tho, even if I leave it out of my sight for only a few minutes. I had a Bonnie chop nicked a few years ago, it was stolen on April fools day so by the time I tracked all my mates down to see who was being a twat. The damn thing was long gone.:(.

It is a lot easier to keep people honest by locking/fastening rabid dogs to/black powder shell and ball-bearings/ than trying to get your stuff back:D
As for scumbags at rallies been covered in detail on previous threads.
I left my keys in my 900r overnight at Kent!!

I've fitted an alarm as I'm always running late on way to work (quicker than chain), Keeps shitheads off of it, genrally drunk idiots at 2 am on a night shift. One total sodbag spent 20 mins trying to kickstart my bike outside work:mad: worst thing was I couldn't go out there and administer a kicking withouy loosing my job:( still alarm with remote starting did the job next time, made the fucker run a mile when alarm, indicators and engine went off simultaniously, loud pipes:devil: in a residential area. Plus the bike looks kinda like a three wheeled Herby:D. No problems since in 2 years:thumbu:

Sod locks after my memory loss = spoke damage incident(but I do use steering and disc lock). I don't lock mi CGrat other than steering - make the barstewards push it in circles...
But I do have an idea, a little sticker that says
"GPS fitted - nick this and we know where you live!"
I wander if it would be more of a deterrent.
