clearing an area to put a store shed when i disturbed a hibinating adder. disturbed it enough to bite me anyway.
no big deal trip to casualty a jab of antivenom and feel fine in a while.
i'm one of the lucky ones who don't seem to get the full symptoms you can get.
yes it hurts and i get a slight swelling but its ok in a couple of days. the bite area stays numb for a while though

so what about a record?
well that makes the 14th time an adders bit me. and although i don't mind snakes i'm beginning to take it personally.
we do have a lot of adders round in the summer. and the cats are always bringing in live slow worms and letting them go.
you ever tried catching a slow worm in full flight heading under the settee :D

don't you still find the "smooth snake" around were you live?

its the mini python. they don't exist in this 1/2 the country.

the prob with an adder bite is that if you are concentrating on something else when you get bitten you don't notice it at the time. some people really get ill with it.
been bitten by a grass snake which of course is not poisonous but you know you've been bitten as it will often hang on. :(

The worst we ever get are slugs in the kitchen, but that's bad enough !!
