The Albatross is quite possibly the most traveled bird alive today and regularly circumnavigates the globe in its search for food, yet returns to the same breeding grounds each year. I reckon Jonnyfp could learn a thing or two about navigation from studying the Albatross.

isnt it also considered by sailors to be a bad omen,,,,,bringer of doom and all that? sailors of old thought that the killing of an albatross would bring bad luck. then again they thought a women on board was a bringer of bad luck. (mind you i can see what they mean't :rolleyes: )

This is because "sailors of old" believed the albatross to be the spirit of a dead shipwrecked or kost mariner,destined to roam the seven seas for eternity.

Actually, an albatross was considered a good omen but killing one would bring bad luck.

Hence the line in the song (based on the poem) The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner "the mariner kills the bird of good omen...."
