Nothing deffo yet but toying with the idea of swapping my 1976 Z650 black hardtail chop for a trike (been considering it over a year now)...

I need a runner and one can be driven on a car licence - my other half hasn't a bike licence and doesn't want to get one but would be prepared to give it a go on a trike...Ideal, she can drive/ride, I can sup...lol I'd also like to get my 8 year-old on board too so another good reason for getting a trike!

I don't have spare cash and nothing much to PX so looking for something reasonable...

Have I more chance of blowing up my own A*se or what?

thing is, im not sure you will find anyone who will do a swap like you want, what exactly do you value the chop at? its going to have to be some exceptionally tidy show winner to be worth more that a grand and a half, seriously, i mean, z650s are a great bike, but theyre only worth good money if theyre standard, and standard z650s are getting really collectable, with minters fetiching a tidy sum. but a chop isnt worth anywhere near as much, no matter how much you spend on it, its still just a z650 chop, and if your up against someone flogging a gs thou or a z thou chop, which would you buy?
which brings me to trikes and their value, after the introduction of the sva registering a trike has got a lot more complex and difficult, and as such prices of trikes already registred and on the road have increased to match, so if a guy is after a chop, andhas a trike, then he is in a sellers market with the trike, and a buyers market for the chop, just about the best position to be in. you just wont get a decent trike, all up and running and fully legal, for less than two and a half grand, just look ib the ads, who is going to do a swap for something worth a lot less than their current vehicle without a serious cash adjustment. good luck with your search, but i think you need to be prepared to part with some cash to get a trike,

agreed, but it depends on whether he wants a bike trike or a car trike,

and since I`ve just MOT`d the trike this morning, and have a chop in the garage, and I`m intending to park a new bike in the garage soon, I doubt I need another chop, and I`d guess many other trike owners will also be in the same position as myself and don`t need another chop cluttering up the garage

Yeah, well, I kinda thought I might be on a loser..thanks guys...

However, you just never know do ya...lol May be someone out there thinkin'...'Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting back on two wheels'...

To be honest...ok, may not value much cash-wise, but it's a cool chop and I would miss the bugger if it went anyway...lol In a way, your comments are a bit of a relief...lol...if ya know what I mean...

Cheers

to be honest, second hand jap chops at 10 a penny these days, and don`t give you the ££ return on the effort you put in getting it on the road IMHO.
keep and ride the bike and start saving you pennies if you want a half decent trike suitable for you, your mrs, and you kids

Ere pob he got the message, stop kickin the poor sod .. :D

However..(And all you 'if its standard its cack' brigade will hate me for this) Z650 in original trim would definatley catch my eye.

Would an unfinished project be an easier prospect money wise pob?

I may know of a VW trike that needs a little work ya see.

Thanks folks, I'll have a look at ebay...

Re the unfinished trike - would be a fine idea, I just don't have any spare dollars at the moment (got a fcukin Vectra that may need a lot of work doing since the timing belt went!) Almost tempted to make that into a trike :D :D

Our lass would go daft (be worth it to see expression on her face :D )

But cheers anyway!
