View Full Version : so heres my question

And so here is my question, and it’s regarding Harley Davidsons.
(Come back Shudy help needed) I know there are not many Harley riders on here, but I know a few of you have, and or work on them.

As some of you are aware I have decided this year to go all out to save enough,
or at least enough for a good deposit on a Roadking, ( I know seedless has one) I have wanted one for ages and I have decided its now or never. I current ride a 1100 dragstar so I am used to cruiser style.

My plan is to pick up a bike just about a year old, which will just about make my budget. This means that the bike will already have, hopefully, the few extras on it we all like.

Now I am wary of entering the portals of the dealer too often as he can talk the hind leg off etc and I don’t want to buy until I am ready. ( and job is secure after april/may)

What I would like is honest opinions on the merits or otherwise of the stage 1 or 2 tune up, I mainly do touring and clubruns, not so much commuting. Miost bikes seem to be thus modified.

The rest is common sense (apart from their lettering system)

Thanks guys and Gals

A very righteous question.

Stage 1 perfectly suitable coz u get pipes and a remap of the fuel system.

However,

I would recommend buying one with a "Powercommander III usb" rather than the Harley EFI upgrade system, coz u can get it tuned at any dynojet centre and can even connect it to your own computer - how much fun is that ! watching your fuel map work on yer own screen with the engine running. :D

The Harley system is a slot in (and then remove) card that uploads the fuel map and then deletes it from the card. So you are stuck with a Harley dealer if summat goes wrong or you want to make a change such as fitting a hypercharger.

RoadKing very good choice for comfortable touring. :)

i'm sorry fayji but the technical stuff is lost on me. but by waiting until may or whatever to sort yourself a bike out is when there are going to be the least deals. if you can stretch to it would'nt it make sense to buy one sooner rather than later? as for fretting over your job, don't worry about it, something will come along if you were to lose yours. go for it faygi!

Wow. Bikes with USB ports? I never knew such things existed
Geeks'r'us

Remember Fayji, chrome do not get you home.
Following Mad Dog to the motorway junction does help - and also RAC Recovery :D

I hope you enjoy your new barge  They are very comfy.

'tis true, the Powercommander series III Fuel Mapping Controller can be connected live to your PC. This is aided when using the latest USB model which allows downloading new software extensions such as the "Accelerator Pump" which means you can tweak it to inject extra definable percentage of fuel for a burst of acceleration according to rate of throttle twist and for a given number of engine revolutions.

Works very well on other makes and models.

plus Powercommander are developing a "plug-in" that will connect to the USB model to also take control of the Electronic Ignition.

Phew!!!

need a lie down now
:D

:D when the big shot exhaust was fitted onto my bike i wondered what the thing plugged into it actually was, i guess it must go to the power commander then. far out.

Indeed

Note,

In your buying stategy, the new registrations start in March, so there are often a few trade-ins or private deals to be had.
