as some of you know we let 7 rooms out in our house to the local council for
the homeless and or women fleeing violence etc.

they can come and go as they please anytime night or day. we have cctv (thats how i caught taxidave with a 16 year old registered nymphomaniac) i knew he wasn't a plummer, no self respecting plummer would carry his plunger in his jeans like that.

anyway. they all get the same lecture when they arrive. basically we perfer not to have drugs in the house, but if they must as long as they rooms don't smell of it or if i smell it on the landings. we are realists and we know we cannot stop them.
the o9ther thing we are strict on is that we treat them all the same. we expect them to treat each other with respect.
so a 55 year old resident has his xmas giro go missing. one of my residents tries to cash it at the village po posing as the 55 year old(he's 17) but the postmaster is my sister, so she knew it was'nt him.
the day after another of my residents try to cash it, but by know we knew all about it.
result. i evicted the 2 residents after giving them 10 minutes notice.
the police were called as were the dss fraud.
but nothing it appears is going to be done about it as both those lads have numerous convictions for petty crime (fraud it seems is a petty crime now)
and it would not change their ways if they were convicted.

so if some with no criminal history did this they would probably get done done.
but if you have a long criminal record then you might not.
is it just me or does that sound like ****e logic?

both these lads came from telford and tried this on in a village of 3000 people where everyone knows everyone.
so they are as thick as ****e in the first place, but evidently been as thick as ****e is not illegal

We used to let 2 rooms to DSS/homeless/kids leaving care.

We got fed up with finding drug parafernalia in the rooms after being given the sob story about giro not arriving etc, we got fed up with our stuff being nicked after we'd gone out of our way to help someone, and most of all we got fed up with being left to carry the can when they skipped owing us rent and finding out that they'd been claiming benefits they wernt entitled to so the council expected US to pay it back!

So when Lee came along - a friend of my daughters who'd broken up with his other half, and was working! and paying his own way! - we let one of the rooms to him, and eventually stopped letting the other. We did it originally cos we needed the cash after a run of redundancy and ill health, but we chose to let to those who really needed the rooms cos we knew what it was like to have problems. Over the years, we did help a few folks who really appreciated it, but in the end we felt we had to give up cos the stress just wasn't worth it, specially when the money wasnt coming in.

Lee's been with us 7 years now, he's almost one of the family and we hope he never leaves!
But it's a bit sad that when you try to do your best for others all you get is a kick in the teeth, not just from them but from the authorities!

sorry about your experience biker gran.

we let 7 rooms plus 2 very large communual rooms. we just use the rear of the house and are seperate from them. we do however do thier meals. they have no access to the kitchen what so ever.
we tend to get some of the worse/desperate cases, due to our very good record with many we've had over the last 13 years.
but some don't want help or believe they are better than the other residents, such as stealing thier meals,(stopped that one when we got cctv). so when we evict someone the council will no longer entertain them.
theres always a massive influx from inland in the summer as people try to get placed just for the summer at the beach. but does'nt happen anymore. the council just tells them to sod off back home. :)

I rented my detached bungalow out to 3 lots of dss tennants
all three wrecked the house and garden, including the outbuildings
after the third, all my windows were put out ( 1920's stained glass,,,irreplacable) and because i had spent so much, time after time putting the place right i eventually lost the house...they even pulled the garage door off,,,,the last tennants also left a dog in the house when they fled,,,,the police wernt interested,
This was a great house and like those who have posted here I wanted to give the familys who were on dss a chance,,,unfortunately they **** on me,,,,,there u go,,,such is life!
