View Full Version : Things I have learnt today

My bike is much more viable than I imagined it would be...

with three weekends including this one, before our first rally I have to get my arse in gear! This reminds me of when we went to Belgium - working into the night before we set off.

Lights and indicators all work apart from the offside rear, which I put on Lou's bike as it needed it first :D Easy to fix that, seeing as I've got four brand new ones going spare (4 for a tenner!).

Back brake works (including the light), just needs pads (though the ones I've got already aren't too worn).

It turns over - nicely - thanks to the new battery off Dracken1 :D

My new seat looks good - it's even better than the first one, which again is on Lou's bike.

Things to sort out:
Fuel tank's full of crap - off to get some thin chain to stick inside and shake the tank about tomorrow.

Front brakes - Master cylinder is well nadgered I think - nothing's coming out of the caliper when I open the bleed nipple; also, the nearside front caliper needs extra work (either that or scrapping, as that's the one that's been playing up a lot over recent years).

Number plate's broken in three places - back to ebay (as it's a small'un)

Switch gear - my attempt at stitching three together turned into a bit of alphabetti spaghetti and the indicator switch doesn't work quite right but at least it works... (might get another one just in case though - £11 off a breaker I know).

Head gasket can wait a while, till I feel like doing it (doesn't look too bad, till you get out on the open road and your leg gets covered in oil!)!

Oh yeah, and the obvious t & t (that means everything has to be done in two).

Not that bad really, considering I've not ridden that bike since the october before I got my job in Lewes, and I've been there a year now :D (got my annual review on Friday at 3pm - hopefully should mean a payrise - crossed fingers!!)

Can i have some of them there tablets, coz I ask myself questions like that all the time, but i never know the answers, its so frustrating, at the moment, the one that has me pondering, is why don't aeroplane toilets have windows? coz not all are situated in the middle.

Sorry, just editing because i just hijacked post with something completely daft, all i can do is apologise and just say insomnia makes me babble, (more than usual)

Because base twelve systems are better (and far older)..

Blame the french for the decimal system, they got over excited after cutting all the nobs heads off...

Time flies when one is amusing oneself.

How is Brian, not seen him in yonks.

How is Brian, not seen him in yonks. He's doing alright! Living out Blackpool now (that's who we went to see after we left yours). He's hardly changed, just a few years older - aren't we all, eh? He's still got the same GS1000 he had back then.

What makes me smile is that the club's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year!

latest update...

Indicator's done - just got to move wiring more into the mudguard to stop the wheel catching on it.

Got pads - fit those tomorrow

New master cylinder's on - easy! and it works (managed to make sure the left caliper's OK as I thought it was nadgered). Remind me never get anything from Pattern Parts.net ever again, as their brake levers are a bit shoddy compared with the originals (thankfully, the master cylinder came with a lever already attached, so I've left that on).

Number Plate's done - nice legal one off ebay for a fiver (BS number, everything - I got it from a place in Scotland which is exempt from silly laws, so I didn't have to faff about taking my documents in, etc.).

Fuel tank's sorted - had fun trying to get the cap open - much WD40 and a big mallet later :D (the lock was stuck because of the previous paint job).

It's getting there!!!
