I did the driving test, with the IOM.
Quite interesting and you get to bore your mates. :D

I've been in the IOM for 10 years now. I keep the membership coz it more than pays for discount on the insurance...and of course I ride like a Sam Browne belt wearing BMW rider  :p

I want to do mine, IAM charge £85 to do it, but they didnt mention fees after that...

It's about £12 per year membership. You sign a form to say you've done nowt wrong all year and will ride like a granny for the coming year and you get discounts on various things. Dunno what else, coz the bumf has hit the bin by then.

I did it with the IAM (Is the IOM the isle of man equivalent? :p )

I enjoyed it, but beware

all groups seem to have 1 or 2 anally retentive feckwits that know EVERYTHING

I did mine from Sherburn in helmet cafe (Kylie-they are a nice friendly bunch from there, but avoid someone called Neil, as he is one of the 1 or 2 mentioned above :D )

improved my ride, and so makes me enjoy every ride, cornering, safety, where to look etc

they asked me to go instruct, but I just don't have the time every saturday-its 1hrs ride away before I start.

good bunch of people in the Sherburn (classed as York) lot mainly down to earth & V knowledgeable

Cheers Maggie, I might do it there when i get a chance (after i've finished my course i think!), and shall avoid anally retentive types. I've never been to Sherburn, I really ought to get round to it one day!

I pass the magazine onto the Father inlaw. I think he gets some kind of kick from having "advanced motorists" on his coffee table. Its OK, but its more your Dr's & dentists waiting room fodder

I tried to get some dear in Mumbai to give me a IAM discount from my RAC, but gave up-and the insurance wasn't the cheapest when I checked around the 'net

RAC insurance? Bloody ridiculous. They tried to charge me £7000 one year!

Hiya Kyles..................get in touch with WOMBLE up Blackpool way....she did the full monty (no, not that full monty....the other I.A.M. one....) and last time I was talking to her (well, she was doing the talking, I was doing the listening) at Cornbury NABD when she and I were marshalling together, she was very switched on with it. A bit evangelistic about the whole thing and she is fully au fait with all of the discounts and benefits which accrue from membership of the I.A.M. and all the other auld bollocks...........

She occasionally post on this 'ere forum, might be worth giving her a shout like............

Depends on which one you take, and of course the insurance company.

Here's a list of the major players --> HERE (http://www.2pass.co.uk/advanced.htm) <--

The Diamond Advanced is currently the Gold Standard for Bike Instructors, however...

... when I asked my (car) insurance company for discount on the basis of me being a Instructor (and hence having passed the 2nd hardest test in the UK) they said no - only a Pass Plus course would give discount.

So, I said - as I am the person who actually teaches and signs off Pass Plus - if I do myself a Pass Plus course and send the certificate to you, will you give me discount then?

Yes, they said.
