Mitch and I have taken up pipe smoking and standing about in unnatural poses wearing tweed jackets and corderoy trousers. We are trend setters you see:)
According to the Independent (today's edition) there is an enormous number of people who have given up tv and are now looking for more intellectual pursuits and alternative living. A number have gone back to college or university to pursue interests, others attend regular public lectures and attend various museum organised events.
Television is described collectively as "bedtime anaesthetic" and a dumbed down intellectual desert. The backlash against the humming propoganda machine in the corner has begun by all accounts.
Biking in itself and the lifestyle is a couch potato rebellion, going to rallies of a weekend, being outside, learning to fix bikes (or not in our case), socialising.
Vive la revolution!!!!!!!!

The day of retribution approaches! :o But wot happens when all the telly producers pack up and move on to somthing more profitable! Wot will happen to all the REAL couch potatoes who cant live without their injection of eastbenders and Big Smother! We will have to find gainful employment for them all! Perhaps they could be put to work watching all the CCTV Mr Blairs fair society drive has hoiked on all us untrustworthy taxpayers! :p

I do most of that and watch telly. Do I get a prize? :D

I quite agree. Never understood my caravanning (*hoch ptuey*) friend who thought it quite normal and unsurprising to take the TV.

Hoping against the revolution though - I like being different.

the thing is though television does not have to be a device that turns yer brains into mush. i can't stand the soaps or 'reality' shows or home/garden/clothes/wife/husband/makeover kinds of stuff. but, i do enjoy the acerbic wit of stephen fry in qi or hislop and merton etc. there are still programmes on tv that make you sit up grab your attention although there has been a decline in the more cerebral tv shows i don't think throwing baby out with the bath water is the way to go. fair play to you mrs r and mitch for what you have done but i think tv can be as bad or good as you want it to be. :)

Derren Brown: Messiah - Friday 7th January, 10.35PM, Channel 4
The controversial, award winning psychological illusionist Derren Brown returns to Channel 4 with a brand new one-off special. In a departure from the formats of Russian Roulette and The Séance, this documentary-styled one-hour film sees Derren in America attempting to raise questions about the validity of certain religious and spiritual belief systems; belief systems that people are encouraged to base their lives upon - such as new-age faiths and mainstream Christianity. Can he get certain authority figures to endorse him as the real thing?

[SIZE=6]Watch This or Dont[SIZE=6]as is your want! :o

whilst some people may class NIN as 'cruel and unusual punishment', I'd rather keep my CD collection where it is, and not subject it to a glorified spoonbender...
