Make sure you get a receipt with the date on it because the DVLA is going to ask for the back tax from someone...If you have as many details showing where it was stored and for how long on the receipt it wont be you...John

Get that V5 then :D
Hopefully getting a police check in the next couple of days and the story the seller is giving matches records of the vehicle.

Replacement V5 here but it costs you £25

If his son bought it years ago it will be registered to his address and your receipt should prove ownership.

Or write them a snotty letter questioning why, as they admit their database hold incorrect information on 7.8 million drivers, they insist on attempting to charge the law abiding citizens trying to help them in their task, rant on for a bit more, inform them that you are the new keeper of this vehicle and you don't care if they send you a log book or not but you wouldn't like to miss out on paying road tax or any speeding fine etc.
You get your logbook for free then. :D

Pay for it with PAYPAL, that way if everything goes tits up, you can claim item not recieved and try to get your money back. The seller won't be able to prove delivery to paypal's terms and conditions so you would automatically win the claim.
NEVER, EVER, offer paypal on a collection sale.
Agreed
I work for a paypal and ebay independant support helpline, and get people phoning in all day who have paid thousands and never got anything and havent got a chance of getting there money back.
Never pay through western union or safe harbour:eek:
If someone asks you to its 99.9% a scam!
