Having been a biker for a few years I have had a variety of vehicles. Currently I have a Fazer 600, a boom family trike and a Hyundai 4 wheel drive. Before I got married again I had a TVR but I my wife, step daughter and me couldn't all get in at the same time. I did consider a TVR Cerbera but had to ask myself "do I need a 190mph sports car to carry a 6 year old in " A few years ago I built a replica of a 1948 Ferrari 166 which although totally impractical was great fun
Readers must have had some weird and wonderful machines so what have you had

i still have my 69 450bhp pontiac grandprix. i always have to phone up petrol stations along my intended route to ensure they will be open.

i'm looking for a decent wolsley 16/60. god only knows why i fancy one of those. i suspect the male menopause has something to do with it. :o

You can always find your way home in a TVR - follow the bits that have dropped off it!

Um,well lets start at the begining,my brain isn't switched on yet.

1978 Chrysler Sumbeam (with Triumph 2000 power)
1974 Chevy Vega (with V8 Rover power)
1973 Pontiac Firebird (400 ci)
1979 Chevy Camero (Glassfibre shell,440 ci)
2x 1978 Trans-ams (both 400 ci)
Ford Gran Torino (4 door,440 ci)

But me fav? was a Bedford CF twin wheeled tipper, with a slant six opel motor in it,you should have seen the "boy racer' brigade when that left them at the lights, hehehehehe !! :D :D

Nice,I like pick-ups.

The only reason I had so many Yanks is that they were sooooooo cheap.Nobody could afford to run them at the time, and I was making shedloads at sea. :o
S'not like that anymorebut it was fun at the time . ;)

yeah sorry bout that, it was one of the 1st metros and the cheapest 'good' car I could get to fit 3 kids into, and I lived in the sticks, it really surprised me how well it handled

I got stopped for speeding one day and the copper was giving me a telling off (as they do) when he commented on the fact that the kids weren't even wearing seatbelts - so I pointed out that they were actually wearing 5 point harnesses which I'd had specially fitted (kids were too small for lap belts FFS) so he became ashamed of himself and let me off with a warning - which suited me. (was doing 40 coming down the hill 50 yds from my house gawd)

I fancy a hearse.
Nice old one.
There was a Humber Snipe hearse on E Bay last year , that had been stored in a barn. That was nice , but in Kent somewhere . Would have cost more to get it transported back than they actual final sales price.

Lotus Elan (several, including a Sprint)
Fiat X1/9
Ford Capri 2.8i (still got it, love it, but it's got to go.. :()

David Coulthard drives a Smart Car on the road, while Michael Schumacher rides a V-Rod. Nuff said.

Me, I've had loads over the years but at the minute apart from the bikes I've got a TX1 Black Cab, a 1950 1600 sidevalve Land Rover and a 1986 Land Rover with a 5.7 Chevy in it mated to a 3 speed auto box. We've also got a Renault Clio but we don't talk about that.

Nice , nice , nice.
Me n me buddy had the 500 Cobrajet "blown n chopped" Mustang - Street Lethal. Sold it to Rob Moore , who used to run with Smax. Cos it had to be road registered an all , when we first got it , we went down the road to the chippy in it just for a laff. Yep - could never afford to race the things - watching Rob get the Mustang back upto modern competition spec just made my arse twitch.
Raced boats offshore for a few years , and that taught me you gotta be really committed to race ( or need committing) - unfortunately I am too tight for that and cry a lot when I have to spend even a fiver!

mr.chaz

I b'lieve so. Although Rob had some probs with the rear and spent a fortune on it. We got it from Roddy Rebuild in Keighly , by which time it was still one hell of a car , but required a sh*tload of money spending on it , if it was ever to be competitive again. I don't know what it's doing now - think Rob quit racing under the " Bad Attitude" Road Rage banner , after a load of politics within the series.

Okay then , I'll add this one ,just to be different.
It's my last raceboat - 20ft " B class" offshore Frode. Running a blueprinted 90 Tohatsu , with low water pickups / bullet gearcase. Held the world speed record at Windemere for B class . Bought it off that crazy Texan Charles Burnette the 3rd ( the nutter you see racing boats on telly) when it was his Los Locos boat. Prepared it and gave it to the lovely Sarah Donahue ( the Bond stuntgirl) to race for us - bringing a second place in the championships.

The "water pigs" banned me off Windemere in this boat. Good number eh? :)

Best job I had was working for Cosworth Engineering on the engine development side.

It's funny but the while I was there I drove the best car and worst car in my life there.

The worst one first! Cosworth were developing a series of 2.5, 3.and 3.5 litre engines for Deawoo of all people! They sent ove a "mule" car so that the engines could be run and tested. Basically this mule car was a cut and shut, and I had to drive it for two hours around Northampton as part of a 24 hour non-stop running test. The power output of the engine far exceeded the capabilities of the mule! It was truly frightening above 60! The guy that took over from me actually stacked the car on a straight bit of road!

The best car was an Aston Martin Volante which was being used as a mule for the engine of the Vanquish! Truly excilerating!

Oh, did you know that Volvo actually developed a V10 but shelved the project?

Something elde we have in common Friar. I worked for Cosworth for 3.5 years. Worked on road engins for the Sierra, Mercedes and Granada Executive.
My 1300 Mk1 Capri was tuned by me and my m8 there. We worked on deburring the cylinder heads after CNC milling. With all the gear to hand, we polished and ported the heads, rebuilt the bottom end with a nitrided crank, 1100 pistons to up the compression ratio, hotter camshaft, double valve springs following re-cut seats and new valves/guides and new small ends. It also had a carb from a racing Anglia with K & N filter. went like shoite of a shovel and topped out around 115mph. With the Escort Mexico rear end as standard it was like a rocket ship on rails and could out accelerate and out turn a VW Golf GTi. Oh! The fun we had. Took it out onto Castle Coombe racetrack and was overtaking peeps on the grass verge (didn't work with the 2.8i, which I stacked head on into the tyre wall at 90+mph). Loved working for Cosworth, hated the management as the were total wankers. Having worked for myself for over 15 years, I resented being told what to do by a tosspot who wouldn't have lasted five minutes in the cut-throat business of contract engineering. Took voluntry redundancy and got £3,500 cash and 2 weeks in liue.

Yes, as in Brough motorcycles. :D Then just to top that off the Colin Chapman Lotus F1 car driven by James Garner from the original Grand Prix film. JG even left his signature on the dashboard. Didn't sit in that though because it's very small and I'm not. The Brough is still driven and the F1 car is still raced.....how cool is that? :D :D :D

How do you and tuck get jobs like that? I want one, it sounds cool, apart from the twathead boss. I'm doing an engineering degree and all i hear about is bridge manufacture and bending beams. Is there a place to look at on the net for engine/car/bike based jobs? Please help or i fear I'll be stuck behind a desk doing sums for ever. I want to actually design and make something good! I don't want to be a beany wankstain(?)
Thanks.
Applied for the job from addy in the local Rag. Look up Cosworths address in Northampton and write to them, if your qualifications suit their needs and there is a vacancy you may well get a job there.......

Ooh, yeh, just remembered. A 70-Ton 40 litre bulldozer (pushing 90 ton of coal) My dad's mate let me have a go in it when I went to see him at the coal plant at the power station. (how the fuck I forget that?)
