If your brain didn’t get totally frazzled over New Year you may remember the great riding weather we had the day before New Years Eve. Blue sky with a few fluffy little clouds.
I live on the Wirral and that puts me on the welsh roads in under an hour. Usually I ride around north Wales and Llangollen area on my Suzuki Intruder 800 but this day I took a different route and found a great circuit to ride. I only went out at 10am for a half hour blast and didn’t return until 5 that evening, but isn’t that what always happens?
Sorry back to the ride. Start off at Newtown on the A483 (mid Wales) and continue on the A483 past Llandrindod Wells down to Bulith Wells. This has to be the best road ever. Twisty city. I mean this band of tarmac writhes like a serpent on a hot plate. The scenery is fantastic as the road stretches higher. I don’t think there is a straight run over 400 meters long. After Llandrindod its downhill all the way to Bulith again riding those curves is exhilarating. I stopped in Bulith for a fry up. After that head north up the A470 to Llangurig passing through Rhayader and on past the wind farm. At the junction turn right continuing along the A470 back to Newtown.
The whole circuit is about 50 ish miles long and I didn’t see one GATSO or traffic cop, in fact I didn’t see much traffic at all which makes a change from the A5 route I normally go. I would recomend you try this run.

That's the route I use coming down from Holyhead to the Welsh National every year (A483), and I agree it's class. When you were in Rayadar you should have visited the Elan Valley Reservoirs. There's a road around them that I believe is actually a mountain road to Aberystwyth (sp) and it's a beautiful ride. Solitude and great scenery.
Good breakfast in Builth can be had at The Drovers - about halfway up the hill in the main street - try their large Welsh - Pork & Leek sausage and Lava Bread.

Wotcha.

Ah - that would be this road then (http://www.moonshiners.org.uk/cheeryroad.htm) - I make a point of using it whenever I'm in that area.

When you get to Builth, you could try going to Crickhowell (A479 if I recall correctly) and then some of the mountain roads through Llangattock/Llangynidr to Beaufort/Brynmawr.

Nice twisty roads, amazing scenery and some great places for food/drink.

And I thought that I was the first and only person in the whole wide world to ride this route. Silly me
We should have a forum page just for folks to submit great roads. Called "READERS RIDES"
