BMW elecrical probs

a mate of mine has a BMW K100 1984.
his speedo stopped working and the day after all the idiot lights lit up but there was nothing from the bike.
i've not looked at the bike yet but has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be to give me an idea as to where to start :confused:

try looking for the moto-bins forum. moto bins is a bmw parts supplier, but on their website is a faults list with all the common bm faults and as well as that, an absolutely brilliant forum for both the boxers and the 4 cylinder models.

aarrhhh bmw bloody electrical faults. i have an 800 boxer in at the mo. just had a new battery he tells me. i'm reading a charge rate of 8.5 volts. so go to charge the battery before i carry out more tests, (battery not connected) shower of sparks, charger needle goes hyper sonic. the bloody so called new battery has an internal short :mad:
