View Full Version : 50cc chop?
Does anyone remember an ad in the mag some time a go for a company selling C50 engined chops? My mates daughter is bugging him about it and both off us has scoured all our past issues for it but to no avail! Thanks folks

Cheers Nik,
Just been speaking to my mate and it wasn't the AJS after all. We wanted the C50 engine so we could bang in a C90 when she was 17 (If she could handle the extra power!!)

the AJS one is a c50 style lump, no-doubt the C90 lump would fit anyway.

That's nothing to do with the British AJS company, they are Chinese / Indian, and I think they do a 125 as well...I think you have to be lucky to get a good one, but if you don't race them and you weigh under 10 stone they should be fine...Oh and they are shipped with single 20 weight oil so you have to do a flush (to get rid of swarf) and oil change before riding them...they sold a lot on ebay...John

the c90 engine will not easily fit into c50 frame the engine is 1/8" taller and not all the engine mount holes line up.

speaking of freaky custom type bikes with honda step thru engines, how about a sachs madass? like a streetfightered bmx bike with an engine, they do 50cc and 125cc versions!!

To be honest with you, Feebz, you're 17 in a couple of months so why not wait till then and get a 125? More choice of bikes then, proper ones with gears and evfin. ;)

Also give you time to save a bit...you can probably look to spend about £300 on insurance...John

There are dozens of good bikes out there that you would like feebz..but whatever you buy you are going to want something bigger if you pass your driving test...Save some money first so that you can pay cash for it up front, then buy what you can afford...you can always trade it in or sell it later...try not to buy it on time payments, you have to be rich to be a biker, speeding fines, petrol, parking fines, insurance, speeding fines, training, petrol, tax parking fines, petrol, repairs, helmet, waterproofs, petrol speeding fines, bus fares.... :D John

Can't go wrong with a Honda. No personal experience with the reincarnation of AJS but I imagine it will be the same as all the other **** coming out of China/Taiwan/Malaysia etc.
Buy the Honda imo.

cautionary note
friend of ours got one of these 50s and it looked great it does has gears and everything, but...............
build quality..................sh*te
customers service (esp when bought over internet) .................. even sh*ter
it lost a circlip, he rang up, ship it to us in london and we will fit a new one oh yes shipping at your cost! our friend asked them to send him one so that i could fit it for him, answer "no it doesnt work like that"
it leaked oil from crank seal, same response as above
yes they look good but i would never advise anyone to get one, do as has been sugested and wait till ya can get the 125 option
good luck :D

Well let's be honest a car is more practical for you than a bike...The cost is almost the same, but you don't get wet when it rains, you can take friends out, you don't have to wear a helmet, you can fit shopping in it..and if you leave home you can fit a lot of luggage in it, It's safer to park on the street because it is enclosed, and you can't fall off it...maybe you should listen to her... ;) John
