I bought this scoot (its a baotian 50) for my daughter this summer just gone, it had a loose exhaust, a flat battery and a duff rear brake and broken front brake lever. as it had only done 1200 km's it was as you can imagine a tidy bike, so I got it home, cleaned up and repainted the pipe before fitting it, repaired the front brake, fitted a lever etc, stripped and freed the back brake and put a new battery on it. it starts on the button, and is as mint as a new bike. almost immaculate bar the odd tiny little scratch. anyhow, I gave it a service too, as it had probably not been touched since new (ive been working on bikes for over 25 years) but my daughter never rode it. she fell off my mrs's lifan whilst practicing, and it put her off doing her cbt. so when the tax ran out at the end of july I sorn'd it and its been in the garage since. its only 16 months old, having been new in july 2006, and with the milage its done, I would consider it just run in. starts and runs great, no rattles misfires or smoke, no oil leaks, nothing broken. its perfect, with everything working as it should. its the one on the r/h side in the pic, (my wifes lian being the other) if you want a scooter, but dont want to buy one off some spotty oik who has ragged it to death with no consideration for mechanical sympathy or servicing, but cant afford to buy a new one, then this may be the one for you. its on a sorn, so no tax, and its not due an mot test till july 2009 easily capable of over 100mpg, sues averages 140mpg on her commute. I just need the room in the garage.
these chinese scooters can be as reliable as anything on the road. unfortunately, as the majority tend to be owned by 16 year olds with no idea how to look after anything, they have had, an undeserved reputation for reliability and quality. my mrs has been running hers for nearly a year now, and aside from petrol, and the occasional oil change and a drive belt at 10k, (theyre a 4 stroke automatic, the engine being, i think, a honda design) hers has needed nothing doing to it. its located in preston in lancs, and im after £200 for it.
