I thought that cameras etc should be visible, and that if one could prove that they were concealed you had grounds to overturn the conviction. Also I thought they had to be able to positively identify the rider / driver, so therefore required a mugshot. Better stop wearing the open face lid, and for the rare occasions that I might be driving the other halfs car, I'd better buy a gorilla mask, ho hum. :D :D

saw the aticle in the paper yesterday and according to the report, this camera will capture your face for identification purposes. It seems to me that this device would only be able to be used on motorways to use its full potential and most people would agree that motorways are the probably the safest roads in the country. How they can argue that it is a safety camera is beyond the realms of reality, its bad enough when people spot a camera in a 40 area and they are doing 50 and slam the anchors on ,but imagine the same driver doing 90 on the motorway, seeing this and stomping on the brakes.down in south wales the south wales police are using SPEED CAMERAS ON THE M4 every day, they are not catching the drunk drivers that mow down innocent pedestrians, they are not catching people driving without licence, insurance, mot etc.they are purely and simply raising revenue to keep the agency running,in other words they are issuing more and more fines to enable them to employ more staff to operate the cameras, there have been reports of some police forces employing civilian operators to cut overtime payments .The main problem is that we as a nation will just sit back and accept it, Oh yes we will winge and moan to each other but do nothing constuctive, the tories made a comment that they would scrap speed cameras if they won the election,is this a promise or propaganda ? only time will tell.

Well I never saw this when it was first posted, and never heard anything about it either - and I live in Dorset!

Also...............It seems to me that this device would only be able to be used on motorways ... not in Dorset it wouldn't, we haven't GOT any motorways in Dorset!

According to The Aged One, Avon now have twin cameras so if you slow down thru the first and then speed up once you think you're safe, Click!, the second goes off when you're further along the road. Dont know where the locations are but next time i call the old man i'll let you know...

those actually average your speed between the cameras .. 'kin pain in the hole as you can't blag it...unless you see the second camera and pull over and wait a couple of minutes.

theres a camera van on blackpool rd in preston, sat by the side of the road, lane coned off, filming every single vehicle passing, heading towards blackpool. theres another set of three cameras, identical in appearance, on a motorway bridge on the m55 heading for blackpool. not speed trapping folk as far as i can see. the camera vans for that round here are usually people carriers, this is a transit. and next to it is a chemical toilet, a portaloo, and behind that a big generator set. this van has been there all weekend, and is operating 24/7 theres always unmarked cars parked behind it, but they arent pulling anyone, and no uniforms are present. ditto the cameras on the bridge. in fact, the only times i ever see this set up is when there is a party political conference on in blackpool. they were there for the labour one, and this time round its the tories. so what exact use do the police have for film of every single person/vehicle going to blackpool for a party conference. talk about big brother is watching!!
