this counting thing also works for stress and nerves


try this trick (self hypnosis really)


think of somewhere real, or imagined, past or present, where you will feel calm and relaxed

(I used to use a place I went when I was a kid - patch of grass near a brook where no-one could find me or bother me, I used to lie there in the sun and no-one ever went there so I was completely alone with no noise or people or anything)

get the idea?

next picture yourself there, do some calm controlled deep breathing and relax and picture this place and nothing else.

once you got the place and the calmness sorted, count backwards slowly from 20. Breathe in for 20, out for 19, in for 18, out for 17 and so on. Concentrate on being relaxed and the counting. When you get to no. 1 you should be MEGA calm and relaxed. At that point bring the calm place into your mind, imaging yourself there, smile if you want, continue to breathe slowly and calmly, and picture yourself in the place.

Do this every day if you can. BUT only picture 'the place' if you feel calm.

After about 7 of these sessions you can now use this image to instantly relax and calm you in ANY situation, interview, Dr appointment, etc etc

what you do is, eg sitting in Dr waiting room before an injection or summat, you are feeling a bit nervous, sweating, dry mouth etc.

close yer eyes and picture yer calm place

you WILL feel clam and relaxed just by thinking about the place.

also works for traffic jams, controlling yer temper, deadlines, pests, xmas relatives, shopping, bosses, interviews, tests, exams, and a host of other stressful situations

You can re-inforce your image any time by doing the counting thing etc

final tip

how to know if you are REALLY relaxed and calm......

1. your tongue will not be pressed against the roof of your mouth
2. your teeth will not be pressed together

so if you check now, and any of the above apply, simply open your teeth and lower your tongue to become instantly relaxed - yep it works in reverse
