CheersUT will correct me if I'm wrong, but I undestood it to mean that in funeral processions, you put the pegs down as a mark of respect to the fallen rider.

I think it is also symbolical - so that the fallen rider can hop on the back and ride along with you.

Arrests have been made in connection with the murder of biker Gerry Tobin who was gunned down on a busy motorway.

Police refused to say how many people were in custody over the murder of the 35-year-old, who was shot on the M40 as he rode home from the Bulldog Bash bikers' festival in Warwickshire on August 12.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "Arrests have been made in connection with the death of Gerry Tobin. Further details will be released at a press conference this morning."

Earlier this week police released CCTV footage of the Hell's Angel looking relaxed as he stopped at a petrol station just minutes before he was shot in the back of the head.

So far, police have failed to establish a motive for Mr Tobin's murder.

The murder has prompted fears of a violent feud erupting between rival motorcycle gangs, but Detective Superintendent Ken Lawrence, who is heading the investigation, urged bikers not to take the law into their own hands.

An examination of Mr Tobin's Harley Davidson has confirmed that a second shot fired in the attack hit the motorbike.

Mr Lawrence said he was "content" that the shots were fired from a dark green Rover 620 which was seen passing Mr Tobin at the time of the murder.

Motorists reported seeing the car driving off at great speed immediately after the attack, and officers are now studying hours of CCTV footage, including images of the Rover.

The police also made the following statement

"It's vitally important that the media do not print or broadcast any information which may prejudice the inquiry or subsequent judicial process. This includes any personal information about those people who are currently in custody which may come to your attention"

This forum will be classed as media, so same as before, if you don't know owt, don't say owt. If you do know, don't say owt on here.

From Warwickshire Police.

Police investigating the murder of motorcyclist Gerry Tobin this afternoon confirmed that three vehicles are currently being forensically examined.
Two vehicles, a van and a Rover car, were recovered from addresses visited earlier today.
A second Rover car, which was fire-damaged, was recovered prior to this morning's arrests and is also being examined. No further information about when or where this vehicle was found is being released at this time.
The search of the two premises in Coventry and one in Nuneaton is expected to continue into tomorrow (Thursday) and further premises may also be searched.
A number of items have already been recovered from the three addresses, including a number of bladed weapons and one firearm.
Three men are in custody at a police station in Warwickshire. They were arrested during the early hours of this morning in a joint operation with West Midlands Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA)when warrants were executed at two addresses in Coventry and one in Nuneaton.
