No medical ideas but... my dad was hospitalised once for coughing up blood, and they found he'd scratched his throat on something sharp (fishbone?) and it was bleeding each time he coughed....

Let's hope it's something simple like that.

Thoughts and prayers for the lass and the family.

Possibly a lung infection or as bikergran says an injury of some sort oesophageal irritation, tonsils, systemic lupus erythmatosus (immune system disorder but extremely unlikely!!!) gastro-intestinal problems such as stomach ulcers, stomach injury that sort of thing.
You don't say how old the daughter is but if she is just a kid I'm sure it would be something simple like an infection or swallowing something sharp. generally speaking if the blood is bright red and frothy it's lungs, bright red from the throat or upper GI tract and dark red from the lower GI tract,
Hope she's ok anyway.

Glad they found out what it was and that she's on the mend , pheeww.

I didnt reply sooner because the "coughing up blood" brought back memories of my brother when I was a child. I'll not go any further except to say it was bad, so I didnt want to jump the gun before you replied once more.

Good news is that she's gonna get better. Lots of hugs and well wishes from me :)
