Got our free newspaper from West Yorkshire Police through yesterday which had on its front page a story about their new initiative to catch illiegal off roaders called operation kickstart.
http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/section-item.asp?sid=12&iid=3537
To aid them in this they've set up a phone line where you can inform on the use or storage of these bikes. This was under a headline of "Dob in a Biker"

dont care what they call em, if this scheme stops scumbags on illegal and nicked bikes from making peoples lives a misery then good luck to em i say. might not be bad publicity for local bike clubs to support innititives aimed at stopping illegal riding on illegal bikes either imho.

Not bothered about the scheme itself but how many people are going to bother reading the free paper from the local police beyond seeing the headline which says in big letters "Dob in a biker". Your average joe isn't going to think that they are just talking about the annoying thieving little scallies unless they read beyond the headline which 90% wont bother to do.

ive just read the news article, and no where does it say about chavs on mini motos !

"The initiative, involving officers from Pudsey Weetwood division and Leeds City Council, will include the introduction of a dedicated anonymous phone number for people to report anti-social behaviour caused by motorbikes"

this reads to me as being aimed at any1 using a motorcycle, does this mean that if you ride your bike, and some1 rings in complaining, you will have your bike seized ?, yes, get the scabs off mini motos and off road bikes who just ride around parks, and generally have no interest in bikes, who just do it the same way they as nicking cars, and burning them in fields, but this seems targeted at ALL bikers !!!!!!!!

I'd like them to say dob in a car driver to get rid of the joy riders...... see how far that got!

dont like the words used.............but if it catches idiots on mini motos etc and others ripping up school fields etc im all for it.............

shame there is no where to use a proper dirt bike tho, as im sure im not the only one here who messed about with dirt bikes as a kid...

places like pit heaps etc have all been taken over by the minority of rambling walking stick hiker politico doogooder types. who seem to get every thing they ask for....

i feel like a rant.

Thing is in York a bunch of folks had got together to organise minimoto racing on an out of town shopping centre carpark after it shut at night. So they weren't on roads, weren't going to hit anyone etc. Some people in houses nearby complained about the noise and they got stopped.

About time they had a decent effort to catch bike thieves up in Wessie-land. Having had a bike nicked in Bradford - donkeys years ago - I always thought they were pretty crap.

Shame about the badly worded missive! :(

They have the same thing in wales now, but I think they take it too far, off road clubs have been trailoring bikes to common land at the edge of the beacons for years, now the police are moving in and confiscating bikes...Biking has to start somewhere and off road is probably the safest place, besides there are some paths that you can only use by foot, horseback or on a bike...John
