what has fatherhood got to do with you being away for 2 weeks. The missus can look after the baby, take 3 weeks off, have a good time, tell your missus I said so

YUP I'll be going, my third trip but flying this year as cheaper in time and mooolah. Joe Cocker headlining, hopefully better than Deep Purple was last year. In a nearby hotel tuesday-wednesday then at the site from Thursday, that way I will have a couple of days of soft beds and air conditioning. I'm getting old, me.
(Recommend taking a moneybelt and taking out travel insurance, it was a bit dodgy security wise and there was a crew of 'tea-leaves' working over the tents last year.)

The worst time to leave your tent unattended is on Sunday night if you're still there.
There was more thieving last year than previous years, but its still not that bad for the size of the rally. I never leave any money in the tent, or camera, or keys etc. I have a bumbag which goes everywhere with me, and I still had my phone pinched the first year I was there!
With regards travel insurance make sure your travel insurance covers you for riding if you're on a bike, most policies exclude riding anything over a 125cc... i have had many arguments about the fact that I have a licence to ride a motorcycle and therefore am safer than some chav who goes to greece and rides a 50cc scooter around with no licence...
Auntie Carole does a reasonably priced annual policy, and i've had it through MAG travel insurance before. Not sure about single trip ones tho.
Wish I was going :( not fair.

There was more thieving last year than previous years, but its still not that bad for the size of the rally. Quite so, didn't mean to be negative, just cautious...it's less dodgy than somewhere like Glastonbury, just that bike rally security had spoilt me as it's a bit more 'Islamic' over here in the UK..("Steal from our rally, lose yer teeth/hand/reproductive equipment... if yer lucky") Any thieving is rare and rarely repeated. Treat Faro like a music festival and you won't get any nasty surprises!
PS I too have bought a bum bag, complete with twin booze bottles. I was surprised they did them that big. I now look like Blue whale wearing a rocket pack.

I`ve just phone aunty carole to quote me for insurance on my forthcoming trip to france, 27th - 12th ............ £43 they want for single trip.
I already have 2 of the standard holiday insurances from other companies, and aunty caroles bike insurance, to cover my bike.
So I dunno if i should bother getting a 3rd travel insurance policy just to cover riding my bike and to cover helmet and leathers

last year i was back home sunday night, I`d have made it to the pub too if the bloody fanbelt hadn`t broken
Wish I was going :( not fair.
me too, especially as I`ve been there the last few years, but the added milage involved from france/germany would be too much, deffo want to ride down there next year, gotta do it once

The problem is that if you come off your bike and need medical attention or worse then the travel insurance doesnt cover you as you were partaking in what they see as something dangerous. Check your bike insurance and see if it covers hospital stay cover/medical bills. Most things are covered if you carry an E111 card (its called something else now but you get it from the post office), but not everything is. My renewal is due on my travel insurance but not paying it til i am off somewhere again but it came through at £67 for the whole year with carole nash.
Check what each thing covers, but you could be looking at potentially retrieving bike from Spain/France/Portugal if you're unable to ride back and I doubt its covered on your bike insurance and definitely not on a standard travel policy. And if you needed to get back by plane because you'd broke a leg or something then the airlines won't let you travel without medical attention often which can cost thousands and if you did it falling off a motorbike (dangerous apparently) standard travel insurance won't pay it, it'll be down to you...

Aunty Carole`s F/C bike insurance will take care of that, as for the 12+ days I`m over in france, half of em will be non-biking days, so I`m potentially looking at £43 for 6+ days riding cover

the detour has been considered, though its a little off the direct route to faro. and the alternative route post casa de Pat is a little too much by motorway
No doubt Nik will be stopping off this year to sample the hospitality ;)

Dunno, Changeling hopefully. Went to see it today and it's nearly (allegedly) done - he was finishing the welding while I was there and just had a bit of wiring to sort out. :)

Hello Fatman, im sure i met you last year, we were camped next to the Brickies and often pinched some shade under the parachute, is Boz etc going this year?

Yup our crew had a parachute-stroke-Sun-canopy set up last year, courtesy of Mad Dave of the Brickies /PIL (who perhaps 'forgot' to hand it in when he retired from jumping out of Her Majesty's hairyplanes for a living.) I'll miss that this year, it was very Bedouin and civilised way of coping with the heat. I might take out a sheet or something to cast some shade over the disposable tent I'm taking otherwise it's boil-in-the-bag time.
Our rally club is a complete bunch of disorganised anarchists spread out all across the country, so I have no idea who's going out there from our crew this year. I'd be surprised if there are very many coming , last year was a special occassion as it was an anniversary bash and nine of us rode out......As for Big Boz, he is fixing engines inside a ship most of the year, so we never know when he will turn up for even the domestic rallies.
I'll be camping in the 'British' section where the MCN crew normally set up, I'm fairly easy to spot being large and having a taste for Kilts and very loud Hawaiian shirts. If you spot me say hello, as my face-recognition skills are rubbish!

I`m going ................. got me a late booking for a flight down, going Thursday morning getting in around 1pm, coming back sunday noon feck staying for sunday night,
I won`t even be there for the raffle draw either, I may as well let someone else have a chance of winning a prize

A sheet is the way to go, I usually take a 6x8 sheet and a washing line to string it up over the tent
