Me little sister had all the pins and plates taken out of her leg yesterday.
I popped to see her in hospital today to make sure she was OK after her operation. She was fine until the surgeon showed her some post op Xrays of her leg. 'As you can see it all looks blah blah blah' he was muttering.
'Whats that?' asks my sister pointing to a bright spot near her knee.
'Oh..ummmm...that....errrrr....well, that's a piece of metal we had to leave behind.....uhhhhhhh, in fact it's the end of a drill bit that snapped off and we couldn't get it out, Happens all the time.' he replied reassuringly.
FFS
:D
when I got sterilised they put two clips on each tube, I came round from the op to be told they'd dropped a clip but it wouldn't do me any harm and so they just left it
lazy fekkers
if yer skilled enough to attach tiny clips to tiny tubes why the heck can't you get one out,,,,,ever heard of a pearl catcher?? FFS
how did they know it wouldn't do any harm
according to my GP the body sees the clip as a foreign body and builds up tissue around it so it wouldn't move or go anywhere or cause a problem - so my question is, wouldn't my body do this to my tube clips as well and cause probs there? could be the answer to some problems I had since the op - but then again, maybe the GP was talking ****e - I know what I think..! Grrrr I really don't like Drs

I got something in common with your sister Freak - when I saw the surgeon the day after my op, he said he'd taken out all the metal apart from bits of two screwws which had broken - the broken ends are in there for ever cos it would cause more probs trying to get them out.....
Can't imagine how or when the screws got broken, or whether they have any bearing on the leg not healing...... but kinda suspect that as they weren't meant to be like that.............???
It's like that scene in JAWS here aint it, where they compare scars.......
I've gotta have some surgery, the plates holding my head together aren't doing their job properly and everytime I chew something my left cheekbone moves about and my eye up goes an down to the point where I feel dizzy. So nothin but soup here at the moment.
FREAK, the surgeon who nailed me back together was a keen biker himself, when I came out of me coma, he said that all the little bits of helmet stuck in me head would eventually come to the surface...........oh joy of joys, but I trusted his word, he seemed to be on the level and I wouldn't be here at all if they hadn't flown him in from Jersey.

Talk of leaving bits in, when I smashed me arm (fell 8ft of a ladder) I had a steel plate put in to help the healing process. After 6 months of work (new mortgage and new business) I was told I need another op to remove plate and would be off while op scars healed. Feck that, says I and just went back to work. Still there nearly 20 years later. The only thing with it is when I crack meself on something it feckin hurts.
As for the helmet thing, It's true, I walked through a patio window in Nigeria. Hundreds of shards of glass in my left knee. Doctor Death ( worked for the Foreign Office and so called 'cos he told a woman with a possibly fatal form of Malaria to 'Take a couple of Asprin') bandaged it up, after cleansing the area and that was it. Didn't even clear out any of the glass. That was around the April of that year and bits were still emerging in November. The Skin over the skull is thin and an irritant will be ejected fairly quickly.
The clip will become pocketed because it is sterile. Dirty or greasy bits or metal that corrodes will become septic and you can then squeeze it out.

Old boy at work once told me that your not a man till
A) you've got drunk and pissed in the old girls knicker draw.. and
B) you've suffered piles...and
C) Had the unfortunate mishap that is a hernia.
guess i'm two thirds a man then.. :D :D

I wonder if surgeons have a handful of leftover bits that they don't what to do with, or wonder where they left them out when they nail a person together after an accident?
y'know like when you put an engine back together and always have a few nuts and bolts left over?

I can imagine it, "Oi! anybody need a Femur, got one spare and I don't know where to put it"! "Swop you for a Liver/Kidney set"
