Parents who give alcohol to children aged under 15 should be prosecuted, a charity has said.

My dad brewed his own beer so by the age of 13 I'd been drinkin' shandy's made from this stuff for years. Dad said one night do you want a proper pint ?, I said yes an' finished it. He then asked if I'd like another ?, I said yes again, drank that a fell up the stairs an' into bed.
I get drunk regularly, but I don't tend to make an arse of myself very often. More often than not, once I start to wobble an' stagger I take myself off to bed, I don't like playin' pinball, myslf as the ball, bumpin' into other folks. Guess that on the whole drinkin' from an' early age gave me some respect for alcohol. My girls have wine at the table mixed with lemonade when we sit down for Sunday dinner, they've seen me drunk an' hopfully know the difference between a social drink with dinner an' drinkin' to get drunk. Personally I like a long social drinkin' session whereby the end result is that I get drunk tho it's not the point.
So fuck these wankers. Moderation is the word, it's a learnin' process for children. Far better they try it under adult supervision than hit the pubs at sixteen an' ram as many alcopops down their neck as they can until they puke, fall into the gutter an' get brought home by the police.

I think you are all stupid...I kept my kids away from parties where there was booze, only one of them drinks, and not too much I hope, I did enough drinking for all of them, keep them off the booze as long as you can, then they will be able to go to work and earn enough to buy their own booze, my daughters first husband was allowed to drink whenever he wanted to, turned into an alcoholic, shakes, hanging around school picking up schoolgirls, getting beaten up, going on rehab courses paid for by you lot,..no, it may sound old fashioned and stupid to you ..but my kids turned out a lot better than me...John

My mother kept me away from parties full stop - I wasn't allowed to them at all. And as most people who have met me will vouch for - I drink like a feckin fish! However, I CAN and DO stop drinking when I want to (or I'm skint), so it's not an addiction, I just like it!
I remember at Ali Bongo's last year someone said to me that it's not that difficult to give up and stop making excuses... so I did for a couple of months last year. Was good to know I could!

all entitled to opinions mate, no need to call us stupid :D...
you know that not everyone that drinks becomes an alcoholic, nor everyone that steals a sweet becomes a bank robber ... congrats on your childrens well adjusted attitude ... I think they may well have turned out ok if ya gave them some ginger wine at Xmas n all ... is like Stevie said ..moderation is the key. if you stop them, they'll do it behind your back.

Yes you are right..there was no need to call you stupid, It was uncalled for, I don't know you..for all I know you could have millions like Tony Blair, who lets his kids drink at fourteen, and he might be bad for us..but he's certainly clever enough to look after number one...and he's the one telling us we mustn't smack our kids, which is why we have the bike stealing, drug taking, wife beating, car thieving chavs around today...I just think the kids should be old enough to work out how much of 'their' money they can afford to spend on drink and cigarettes before they are allowed to try them..We spent our money on good food, warm clothes, and a place to sleep...We never even considered buying them booze...18th Birthday party we took them out for a meal, with a drink, and they mostly didn't bother with the drink...however I appologize for calling you stupid..it was rude of me...John
didnt take it personal fella, hence the :D bit ;)
Majority o people here had a drink before they were 15 you can bet ya life savings on it. Maybe even you? - do understand what your saying mate.
its a strange world when at 16 you can be married or begin to serve your country in the armed forces but you can't quaff a beer.. perhaps education is the key here, I dont mean school, I mean real education, this IMO comes from our peers... I smoke Pot and have since i was young but I dont, have never, and have seen with my eyes the damage crack/heroin have done to some people I have known ... Didnt touch because I was educated properly by one that knew.
I guess I smoke because my pops smoked cigs ... i dunno

Thing that amused me most at that age was that you could legally have as much sex as you like but you couldn't buy a porn mag/dvd!!!

From Sky News Web - Response to ....
I have shown my children how to do everything including how to drink responsibly. If I banned alcohol in my home and made it a taboo subject, my children would seek advice from their peers instead and that would land them in hospital!
My Grandfather was a violent alcoholic, my mother in turn was a violent alcoholic and I ended up in a childrens home. By the time I was 15 I was consuming a half bottle of vodka, 4 cans of special brew & a large amount of cannabis per day. I was hospitalised many times and arrested more times than I can count. I was attacked, raped, slept rough, expelled from 2 schools - all because I drank!
You'd think I wouldn't want anything to do with alcohol - wrong! I learned how to drink responsibly after meeting my husband and how I wish someone had taught me this as a child. I had 3 children by the time I was 21, they are now 14, 13 & 10 & as a responsible parent I have taught my children about the dangers of excessive & binge drinking and have allowed them all to taste different types of alcohol, even letting them put a finger in a glass of whisky. The only thing they all like are alcopops which in my opion are targetted at kids so I have been able to tell them that it would only take 1 bottle drank quickly to make them drunk and lose control of their ability to keep themselves safe. If I didn't do this - who would? Should my kids be experimenting on the streets instead?
Pretty much what I was sayin :D
I guess I smoke because my pops smoked cigs ... i dunno
I smoked cos my friends all smoked. same with beer and nothing to do with my parents. Peer pressure at it's finest......
Kids encourage each other to drink regardless of what their parents say. Some kids will listen to good advice and stay away but the rest just crack open the WKD and party on down the local park. They use the internet to arrange these things whilst us parents think they are doing their homework and come the weekend its sex and drugs and rock and roll. When they get back to school they all talk about how cool it was to have a piss up and be rebels for the night.
They think they are the first teens to get up to such shenanigans, but they most definitely are not. It's been going on for years. Generation after generation of teens has rebelled and got drunk down the local park/graveyard/wasteland/wherever. and the cycle will continue.
What I object to is the threat of being prosecuted for it by some do-gooding arsehole who thinks they know better than me what's best for my kids.
Fuck 'em.

Bloody nanny state isn't it where the busybodies want to legislate on everything that goes on in your own private home. The fact that some people shouldn't be allowed to raise kids is besides the point.
A party with 100 kids in your own home? Come on, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to guess what could happen.

I have never really drank much ( mainly because after 4 pints i fall over or throw up :D )
My old man used to give us a shandy when we went round my uncles house for the night and we had the odd glass of wine with sunday lunch.
My lad will have a drink with me but i did wait till he was 15 before i offered. he seems to be able to take it or leave it, often refuses one and makes himself a cuppa.

I was brought up in a home where I was allowed to have a SMALL glass of wine /water with dinner , my Dad is half dutch so its normal over there .
I was also brought up very aware that my parents and their mates 'smoked' and grew their own .
As I grew up into a teenager all of my mates would get off their faces and I,d be the sensible one (most of the time ) and I think that its because booze and drugs weren,t 'tabboo' .It was,nt such a big deal for me.There was always stuff in our home( both alcohol and weed) and I never bothered with it , if I wanted a glass of wine , bottle of beer I could have one ....no big deal.
I,ve brought up my daughter in a similar way ( without the drugs ) but talking aboit them and making her aware of how different drugs can make you feel and what any implications can be .
There is ALWAYS alcohol in our house , yeh the teens may have an odd small bottle of Stella but other than that they are not bothered .Yeh mine may have a few drinks with her mates but she normally will just have one or two.....and stops !!!
I think its all about how you communicate with your child , talk to them about stuff and give them guidance .
obviously the stupid twonks who give their six year olds a cple of bottles of alchopops ( coz it tastes just like pop!!) should perhaps be taken in hand ..............it,s all about using your common sense .

I suppose that was Melbourne England and not Melbourne Australia...what sort of people can afford an outside pool in England..and two toilets..inside...and a bungalow that is so big that you don't notice the vandalism caused by 250 people...Then they show a picture of the front and say it was taken after the damage was repaired..oh yeah...well someone has dumped a mondeo there... :D John

:p i think the real problem is children that give alcohol to parents---no more beer for u dad(WHERES ME COAT-IM NOT PISSED)gallybagger numerous times.
I got drunk on my mates dad's homebrew plum wine at about 14 years old.. mum occasionaly let us have a tipple when we had a posh meal.. moderation is the right word, but so is sensibility.
Letting your kids get hammered at every opportunity is inviting trouble, but so is leaving and 8 year old to care for toddlers.. we wouldn't do it but there are those out there who will. :(

My parents allowed me A drink when we hosted parties, started with sloe gin fizzes at 9. Did I drink as a teen? Yup, did I try to drink Germany dry at 18? You bet, do I enjoy a good piss up now? ABSOLUTELY. Do I allow my kids a drink at them? Sure enough do.
Guess what, after seeing what the peole do who were FORBIDDEN and the unsafe overindulgent sloppiness of them because they weren't tought the propper precautions showed me my parents did great by me!
When we party it is in as safe a manner as possible, noone drives and it is away from the a$$holes who want to see how bulletproof they are after some firewater. We all have our kids there as well so they can understand that we get s$itfaced with those we TRUST.
My 19 year old daughter now goes to parties and knows to cover her drink and not get trashed but to enjoy a drink and have a good time, the lessons and stops are in place for her.

Most of Europe are pretty open and easy about "children" drinking,
yet the UK has the worse binge drinking and underage excess in the world...Appart from the USA...
Ergo banning kids from drinking does not solve problems in later life.
I had a faily sober childhood and when I hit legal I went mad... Ten years later late I look back and realise my mistakes, I'm drink on occation usualy in a social setting and not too much.
Even then it tend to be low alcohol cider...
If alcohol is as normal as brussel sprouts to children then maybe they would be better off in later life.

Bang on, so did i.
Was brought up in South Wales on a massive estate where my folks worked, was brilliant, would never have considered staying in and pretending to play by pushing buttons, even if that option had been available. I hate modern kids and their fashion/electronic games obsession, mainly gleaned from watching their lazy fuckhead fathers playing gameboys rather than paying them any attention.
Never drank till i was 19/20 i never, got my buzz from riding bikes, couldn't afford to do both. Can now, so i do, with a vengeance.

Latest figure released in both the Guardian and new scientist...
Russia didn't come out too well neither, then again I lived with a group of Russians a few years ago and I've never drank so much Vodka... I suppose its what you define as binge drinking... :D
