The reason I wear the patch is not only to tell the biker world that I have fallen and got back on and rode.
I hope that with the patch people see and ask about the society and bikers in general not just my disability and why.
I get approached by not just bikers but all people from all walks of life.
I explain to them that bikers are not out to meance but have there own way of life not wanting to conflict with anyone but to live by our rules.
The more people that get to talke to us bikers the more we will be excepted as we do not force our way of life but want to be excepted as part of the world. Then when we want our say about something they will listen.

sorry, i dont want to be accepted. normal non biking society is full of scumbags and halfwits, i want nothing to do with it. to be treated as an equal by the vast majority of society is to be accepted as an equal, and though they may regard that as a good thing, i think that to me thats an insult. i want nothing at all to do with them. i dont want them to accept me and my life, i want them to be wary of me and leave me well alone. if i wanted to be like them, then i would behave like them. however i dont, i want them to ignore me, leave me alone, being barred from a few pubs is a price worth paying imho. why the fuck should the biking world lower its self to the oddball behaviour and lack of morality of the rest of society. i became a part of the biking world because i saw it as elitist, seperate, slightly edgy, and to be avoided. to bow down to the world now and go all cutesy pie to them with charity runs and the like and compliance with their way of thinking is just to tell them that theyve got you finally to think their way is better.
i must be getting older, but i liked it more when people didnt like us, cos they kept the fuck out of our lives.

I'm with John on this one. Why not park up yer bike in the high street and give out information leaflets just to assure people they have nothing to fear from bikers.
looking at it...we have a reason to be arrogant....but none of us are...
Explain. I hope there are some decent people in the COBB but I must admit I can't understand what it is they are offering that NABD can't provide.
Apart from a means for wannabees to sport a backpatch obviously.

Sort of agree with Johnr.
But my wife is disabled, nothing to do with bikes.
So bikers with a disability can face discrimation on two aspects.
Not easy.

Why should a thread be closed, when it is informative . Just because a moderator doesnt like the subject matter . That is dictatorship . This is a open forum and should be kept that way .

I too can see no reason why the thread should be locked, it all came about as a result of a letter in the mag after all.
UNLOCK IT I say....

don't flatter yourself matey, i (we?) don't give a fuck what you fell off.

so you think you've got the right to speak for the rest of us, do you?
do you think that dressing up as a patch club gives you that right?
The more people that get to talke to us bikers the more we will be excepted as we do not force our way of life but want to be excepted as part of the world. Then when we want our say about something they will listen.
i presume you mean 'accepted'??
if you want to feel accepted then thats fine, you obviously feel then need to 'belong' to something, (anything),
i don't.
i also don't think that the way to get accepted by the biking fraternity is to put a mickey mouse patch up, but hey, that's just my opinion.

I think thats unfair Rob, I certainly dont see any stirring, just some people giving opinions (maybe not completely informed ones) and stating how they feel about the issue, I have dumped my tuppence worth on the thread it might not be right buts it my opinion.
I dont have a problem with slagging off any club if I feel I should, I have done in the past and taken the consequences, I dont slag people/clubs lightly and dont normaly do it in public, but they send a letter to a public magazine and they should have thought it though, I think they were playing the disabled card and thought they would get away with it and thats insulting to all the other disabled bikers out there.

It ain't ever going to be easy rob, balancing the freedom of speech, that you quite rightly feel everyone should have, and and the right for others not to be insulted. :(

Well, for the record I'm stood by Rob's side. It's a tough call as it is a response to a letter printed in a magazine but it HAD gone beyond that. Fair call, Rob. Not an easy job but you're big enough and ugly enough to take the flack ;)

Definately.
Back to Deano's bollox.
I have kept my mouth shut about this on both threads.. Dean for the record (and i'm not illiterate before you make presumptions) You are acting like a Cunt if you think that by ...
...playing barry manilow out of the speakers on your fully dressed goldwing replete with stabilisers airbags and AIM sticker whilst waving the flag of equality morality and injustice, you are ever going to change a fully established subculture. Let alone gain any respect for it. <edit> you are wrong</edit>
By all means tell the world that COBB, that ironically named 'society' are not scarewy and are fwuffy wuffy ...
COBB - Cunts On Bikes Bleating is a more appropriate acronym for what can only be a short lived Amercian lesson in Hyperbole!

Yep some of it got personal and bitchy
My point was that the letter was in the MAG so for that reason why not discuss it.
In the past people that have got out of hand just got barred from the forum.

Not always barred.Pat used to lock threads when it was getting out of hand or personal & tell those involved to sort it out by PM or in person..... :)

Oiy Si.... I never barred anyone!!! well unless it was a porny spammer...
:p
I personally would have let the thread run, as I didnt think it was too unpleasant, just a tad 'heated'. But we appointed moderators to moderate... and That is what Rob did, he used his judgement and I stand by him on that. :D
My personal opinion is that the COBB person by writing in to the mag opened herself up to public comment, and sometimes public comment isnt quite what you really want to hear... and obviously in this case it wasnt... interesting thread though...

glad you like it, just about sums up my opinions of this thread
patches are for those that have earnt them through hard work, respect and service to their club and elders etc
and as far as explaining myself, my lifestyle or life choices to people, like fuck!!!!!
the phrase" if I have to explain you wouldnt understand" springs to mind
