Is it true that you can no longer get an imported Honda or other motorcycle from USA or any other country MSVA tested as I have been told by a UK dealer that Honda has put a block on imports & VOSA will not test them.

Hi Kev,
As has been already mentioned over 10 - exempt, CoC - already has type approval, bikes from the States MSVA. A bike built for the US/Canadian market will not have EC type approval because it was built to FMVSS/CMVSS standards.
Most of the "official" importers don't particularly like MSVA as they see it as a threat to their busines (even if some of them have used it when it suits). They are often less than helpful when it comes to supplying documentation for bikes they have not sold.
If you import a bike from the US we don't need much in the way of paperwork. What you will need for DVLA when you come to license and register the bike bike is proof of age which can be the original US registration or a certificate of newness if it is new and never been registered. You should be able to get this from the seller in the US. DVLA also recognise dating certificates from recognised organisations such as owners clubs.
No one from any manufacturer has approached me about refusing to test machines based on where they come from, and I do get a bit miffed when dealers start dictacting MSVA policy, that's my job. One of the reasons MSVA was set up was to allow the freedom of choice that was available to consumers prior to type approval coming in. Ok, it's another hoop to jump through but better than the EC type approval or nothing option.
Cheers
Chris

thanks Chris I knew it was not correct what the dealer is saying as I have never had a problem with imports I have made from USA.

I think I am the guys being spoken about here.
Ok, I have been warned to be aware of my dealer and on this occation I do feel he is being genuine. I have dealt with him for 20+ years and like he feel we might have bumped into a problem.
I had a call today from someone today who runs a company many of you get parts from, I wont name him until he says I should, but I am sure is in on these forums. He told me that Honda and managed to sue some dealers and it has something to do with Sports Bikes imports. I don't know the specifics, however he explained another way to bring GW's into the UK and that is to purchase them outright from the US then obtain an agent to bring them into the UK.
I have since learned that the rumour I heard about the SVA was untrue and like all new stories it remains a story.
My dealer is attempting to obtain a UK bike to relace mine, I put him intouch with my contact to obtain a US bike as this is my preferance.
I will keep you all informed and I do hope my contact will explain this further.
