Hi people,

This is my first post (of many I hope) to the forum... and I am hoping you can help me.

My lovely other half has a 1998 Suzuki Bandit 600 GSF ... and its not running too great. The main problem is that at partial throttle it stutters then picks up very quickly to the point that its dangerous to ride. I have also noticed it flutters and the idle speed seems to 'hunt' a little between 1000 - 1500rpm... when warm it occasionally cuts out.

So yesterday I took the tank off and checked the fuelling was ok and that the coils were putting out right 'book' resistances... all seemed ok. Then had a go at carb synchornisation and noticed that although the carbs were matched in pairs (1 and 2 were same, 3 and 4 were same) we could not get 1 and 2 to match 3 and 4... and the book doesnt actually specify how

I am a bit lost now so any help appreciated... I noticed also that a K&N air filter has been fitted so am wondering if someone may have messed about with the jets or not as the case may be?

Can anyone advise?

Cheers

Scott

Sounds like an inlet manifold leak.

check the rubbers twixt carb and head.
With the engine running, spray around the rubbers with hairspray, if the idling improves then you have a leak.

Checked that mate - no air leaks...

Any ideas why the carbs wont balance correctly? - only seems in pairs?

It sounds like you might have a blocked jet or water in the carbs. I am not sure about the balanceing.

Can you isolate wich barrel is running badly ( test the temp diference on the down pipes) you could try swaping the plugs one by one with a good plug to see if you have a dodgey plug.

Good luck.

under the bit where the cable goes in to the middle is another screw adjuster - this does 2 to 3 balance adjustemnt - no - its not the idle screw... its the other one.. difficult to see / adjust

ahhh..... NOW that makes sense :p

So the other balancing screw is under the idle speed screw?

Sounds like was adjusting the wrong one :o - every time I pushed down too hard the idle speed went up
