I don't have one!
But it would be fun have my own pages to talk about myself, and my bikes, and my travels.
I did start making a site for myself online a few years ago but abandoned it cos I didn't know what I wanted to put on it. Now maybe I'd like to try again.
The reason I've posted here is that I want advice from those who know as little about computers and websites as I do - which is prolly not very many of you!
Can anyone tell me the best, correction, the simplest! online site for building my own pages? It has to be done that way cos if I try to add any more programs to my pooter it will curl up and die!
So, I await your suggestions!

most internet providers will allow you some space free this is the way to start
have learnt the hard way about not keeping backups, but worth a try, check your main provider first
for example NTL gibve you 55meg free
if you have a copy of microsoft publisher (word lets you do it as well)
you can create some basic pages with that
then choose save as from the file menu and choose web page
remember to upload any images you use as well
have a play then start moving on to microsoft frontpage
then you can move onto more advanced stuff if its your cup of tea
and as fayji said your isp usually asignes you some space.so worth looking at

further to wot them two said, some isp's have a 'build your own website' feature with all the bells and whistles you'll need and they are designed for people with little or no experience.

Try www.freewebs.com. I've got three sites with them:
Hatfield Rat Pack (www.freewebs.com/hatfieldratpack/)
Cambusters MCC (www.freewebs.com/cambustersmcc/)
Urban's chop (www.freewebs.com/urbanschop/)
their a bit basic, but as I know more about brain surgery than websites, it's quite esay to use, and has a tour feature to help ya!!

Thanks Urban, I'll have a look at that!
I know about Publisher and FTP and all that - tried it, didn't like it - might be cos I'm in the same league as you with the brain surgery!

i'm crap with html code. i'm crap as morse code too.
i built my site with "coolpage 2.7" its a small download and then its basically drag and drop.
freeservers and 0catch(zero catch) provide space and although the free ones put adverts on there, if you make your backround a low quality picture it will cover the ads .

Um, I understand drag and drop - but where do you get the stuff you drag?
I mean buttons and styles and stuff? Is it all in the program?

I started out using Notepad and even now I'll use a simple text editor like NotePad to check HTML code.
Personally, I'd never use MSWord because of the size of file that it creates. Usually three or four times bigger than it needs to be.
I (usually) keep things simple because not everyone has got IE on a PC with all the plugins etc and other browsers (Netscape, Opera, Firefox, etc) can view what I've created on Macs as well as PCs. That's why I stay away from M$ web products like FrontPage.
