Erm... confused of Seaford here!
That bike of Mrs R's wouldn't start earlier on her way home from uni! Bloke came out to look at the bike. Eventually, he found the problem, he said the battery isn't getting enough charge in it, it was 2 volts short so if there was something like loads of heavy rain or crap in the carbs, it would just flatten the battery.
Can anyone think of a reason why this would happen - the Haynes book of lies is even more confusing on the subject.
We think it might be something to do with the ignition switch under the seat - it's a feckin' suzuki one FFS!! (why, I'll never know), that and the cheap nasty starter button...
Also, does anyone know how an alarm would be wired up as we'd like to remove it over the winter so we can go back to a standard airbox on there?

cold weather starts to show up old and fecked batteries for one.
check with a multimeter that you are getting up to about 14V with the engine revved a bit, and headlight on (as it will be a lot more in htis time of year)
clean battery contacts, and grease them - esp the cable from - to the frame / engine block.
alarms / immobiliser- hmm - every one is different - but 99% are wired in somewhere into the ign feed wire to the coils - or if its just an alarm - pull the fuse out? not somthing i want to go into detail on a public forum tbh.

Ah
Thread found
Sounds like you certainly need some diagnostics! What is the bike actually doing / not doing?
Does it start ok? Does it cut out for no apparent reason? Does it run hot? ..... give us some clues and I'll do my best to make some (useful) suggestions

remind us what it is? A GT750?
I could collect and do a rewire for you.

I had a similar problem with my FZX. sometimes it would start, sometimes nothing !!! everything seemed to be okay but it just wouldn't start !!
Anyway, I got it to my local auto elect garage and they couldn't find the intermitent prob either but they did come up with a pretty good diagnotics idea.
Basically they wired a small lamp (dash board type that you can get from Maplins for a quid or so) into the coil feed wire and another into the fuel pump feed wire.
That way I know everything is okay before I try to start the bike. Fortunatly, since they looked at it the bike has started everytime so something they did inadvertanly solved the problem anyway. But it was a good idea !!!

Try a total rewire with new cable & connectors.I did it on my old GS550,easier than you'd think, and at least you know what condition the cable is in,unlike a 2nd hand loom from a breakers (sorry BlackPig,once bitten and that!)
I'd no probs, took about six hours although I did get sunburnt down one side as I did it in the street!(no garage or shed you see)
If I can do it ANYONE can!

Fookin'ell, lay off the forum for a couple of days and then look what happens :D
MD, Sure tis - your offer is very tempting, though you know how we are for funds so it would have to wait at least till January
one of Mrs R's friends mumbled sommat about the Rectifier going, does that have any bearing on things?
While we're at it, I found a picture of the bike in an old copy of AWoL - 2nd issue of the relaunch (Summer 2000) at the Anglesey Show (at least it didn't have to go far!! We bought it from Anglesey.

b4 everything make sure the batteries ok first.
See if ya can borrow a battery of some1 same as yours and see if it does the same thing.
If the rectifiers gone you will know by putting volt meter on the battery. volts should go up when ya rev it.
