get some maskin tape and try to get it in the size u want the strips and just lay them where u want the stripps and spray the black first then when thats dried mask of the black and do the red and hay presto done ,,,well thats how i did mine anyway,,and i got a real wide maskin tape to and just had my strips that wide,,made it easyer too :D

first of all i was going to say ship the parts to me and i'll do it for you with proper paint and equipment.
then i re read your post and as far as i would know blodders could be your pet name for your naked body,i'm sure your a nice enough chap but to be honest i would'nt fancy painting you.
i could ask the missus to do it but then it would take a little more paint :D
primer the parts, mask off the stripes, spray whichever colour first. allow them to dry properly or use a low tack masking tape to mask over the sprayed stripes , low tack ensures you won't lift the paint.
try to mask right on the edge but its better to have an overlap than a gap.spray the other colour.
remove mask allow to harden then sand with 800, apply clear coat then sand with 800, 1000, 1500 wet these with soapy water. finally a good resin polish like autoglym.. there job done

I've got a feeling it is his naked body that needs painting, and I'm sure he'd be into 80 grit on a DA sander if the rumours are correct. :D

And keep any dusty hairy pets away from where youre painting, unless you want an artex like finish.
Yes. Learnt by experience....
Got a different missus now anyway.
good luck

you getter a better edge if you use insulating tape instead of masking
also insulating tape is more flexible and goes around corners better

Tip that i discovered is to put the cans in hot water before you spray as it thins the paint down.Be warned though don't go OTT as the cans could explode.
Hasn't happened to me but the warning on the can is there for a reason.

Hey Fayji, why not try something really different ?
Tape the black and red cans together and spray them both at the same time................ :D :D

Also make sure that the room that you are painting in is as warm as you can stand it, an your tank an paint have been in there a while so as to get warm 2, but as already said, if your cans get 2 hot your in trouble.

The only thing I can add to this is make sure you get plenty of ventilation between spraying, and don't do it with any pets in the room, this includes fish.
I usually spray small items in the kitchen with 2 gas rings on and then stand outside while the coat dries.
Wife moans like hell but it saves ruining the paint through being too cold.

well thanks
it is the bike ( named Blodwyn by me.. cant really remember why now) that needs paint..
cheers for all advice ( and the offer Drakken)now all i need is some time to attack it...
oh and heaters.. thanakfully garage it is in is large, airy, clean and has plug points
i used insulation tape on my bike but was a bit to eager to get on with the next bit and pealed it off to early and it pulled off bits of the paint job.
advice leave it to dry and dont rush it.
we can all be a bit impationt (something spelt like this) but realy let it dry better in the long run and saves money and effot rubbing down and respaying.
plonk the can in warm water for a bit it realy works well especialy at this time of year.
i allways use laquer after to seal the paint and give a nice finnish .
ps i am not an expert but have learnt the hard way by buggering up a few paint jobs on my bike.
good luck on the paint job

spray the whole thing red mask sripes with low tac tape very gently drag very finegrit paper in one direction over un-masked area once blow dust off or better still pay about £1 and get a tack cloth to remove dust. spray black remove tape and lacquer to hide level difference in paint.
