before i had an air products account.
and used co2 i used to talk nicely to a landlord or a guy working at the local brewery supplier.

things have tightened up as far as gas is concerned. i had a spot check 3 months ago and got a bollocking as i had lent out a cylinder of argon/co2.

Tamworth Steel are BOC agents,if thats who you are looking for.Why CO2?Argon mixes are much better for the job!

hi fatboyfat
thanks for your reply regarding c02 , the reason i dont wish to use argon it seems to be used up at a faster rate than c02 so i dont mind a bit of spatter with the c02 ,regarding b0c do you think they will refill a c02 cylinder when i i dont have an account with them ,my werlding is based on my hobby and only use one or two three foot cylinders not the full size ones ,can you advise thanks for your repy ,mustbemad :D

Hi Mustbemad, good news and bad! BOC wont touch you unless you have an account and the bottle is rented from them.I once decided to take a bottle back to them that had been kicking about my garage for years and had never been used, never again! You'd have thought that I had stolen it the questions they asked me.

Good news is that I had to go to Jawel Paint on Watling Street today and they had a couple of CO2 cylinders in the shop. I asked about them and was told they could fill your cylinder for you and they can also do argon mix and pure argon.

I get my cyclinder filled at a local fire protection place, extinguisher service guy, much cheapness, but co2 argon mix is better gives better penetration too of ya weld.

Pure Co2 should have a heater unit as the gas is a liquid when pressurised, that's why it isn't used industrially so much. You can rent Argon/Co2 mix from BOC i half-bottles, as I do. You then get them refilled as necessary.

Co2 gives different weld characteristics as well, argon is better for structural stuff, co2 is good for thin stuff. argon +oxygen is best for stainless
