in 1975 all you had to do to pass your test was ride 'round the block and not run the bloke over when he jumped in the road to test your emegency stop  :)
As Krammer, passed in 1975, first go.

1st time failer here :D
so long ago can't remember exact reason why-i think I got lost, and skidded on some wet leaves on my emergency stop
was in Halifax 1983/4?
I was a bit Gung Ho in those days-CB100N-throttle back to the stop everywhere-2 part test, no training :o (no idea & not much gear either )
passed my car test 1st time though :)
Failed my first one cos me bike broke down. Really pissed off cos the week before I'd gone out and bought a 500cc Honda. Had to look at it every morning for a month as I got my 125 from the shed. Bummer

Bike & car both first time -he says smugly. Late 70s.
Bike was a borrowed Honda CB200, (my own had died the night before), & the car was my Dad's posh Peuguot after learning in a Triumph Toledo..
There was a big warehouse fire in Newbury, Berks, the afternoon I took the car test. We sat in a traffic jam in the high street for 45 minutes without moving an inch. The examiner never said a word. When we got back to the test centre everyone else had buggered off. Think he passed me just so he could get off home too.
Passed my car test first time
Passed me Bike test first time
Passed me bus test first time

Failed first time. Coming round the block to do emergency in quiet suburb wheel slightly crossed centre line, and duel lanes going round roundabout turned off but changed lane. Then did direct access intensive with West pennine and passed with four minor faults
Kylie

Car test passed first time with about 4 minor faults
Bike test failed first time on emergency stop and some other random ****e that the examiner picked out of nowhere - apparently this examiner doesnt fail you on just one thing. I would have appealed but I was blatantly too stoned on pain killers to remember to look over both shoulders before setting off after the emergency stop so had failed anyway.
2nd test passed with 2 minor faults.
Not bad considering i've fallen off repeatedly since and it took me 3 years before I could do a U turn after the test!!!!

Yeah thats all I had to do in 1962...mind you he played it safe and let you know where he was going to jump out...After all he had to survive to test the next one, so we all passed if we could follow his directions. he just said drive up to the next corner, turn left keep turning left until you see me jump out and then do an emergency stop...no writen test. no u turn..three highway code questions. can you read that number plate..ok you passed..be careful! so now you know why we coffin dodgers drive badly!:D John

First time for me in 81 on an XS250! chain came off on the way to the test
Made it round the block a couple of times though and that's all there was to it! :D
Failed first bike test march 1971, BSA B17 was 16 and 6 weeks (been riding a bit already) cos it was pissing down with rain and the tester bloke hid in a cafe while I rode round and round in the rain, complained and they gave me another test 6 weeks later, passed no problem.
Failed first car test for driving on pavement (Dont ask) passed second time no bother.

I failed my part 2 the first time round cos I did a really impressive lock up and skidmark on the emergency stop :D I'd only had 3 lessons and thought I was invincible. Oh yeah, and I took the test in Wigan, on a day when it was blowing gales and not a good day to be out riding on a 100cc lightweight bike :(

I passed mine 1st time - though I broke my foot twatin about waiting for Part 1 to start, I knew we would be riding around cones and I had hired a school bike to do so .. waiting waiting waiting .. ahh there's a couple of metal bollards i'll practice going around and through these...WHACK.... ow,ow,ow,... bugger.
The emergncy stop made me laugh I thought he was gonna jump out in front of me somewhere .. way down the end of this road, took me ages to see him (LONG road) was this bloke waving a clip board ... LOL ... them were the days .. keep driving around the block until I tell you to pull in .. nailing this little 100cc Yam when he cant see me...

Failed 1st time on the last part of the ride back to the test centre, i was in the correctly marked lane for the centre, but apparently i should have been in a different one as it was incorrectly marked out?? could have told me before!
second time i went to a test centre in Launceston Cornwall, picked my own route, and really enjoyed the test, friendly examiner, passed with no faults, he described the examiner in Plymouth and said he tends to fail bikers if they aren't using a school bikes, and wearing the school fluorescents!
Not taken my car test cos still can't convince myself that i want one of those things. :D
Kylie
14-11-2006, 10:30 AM
I got 100% on the theory test though :)
Me too :D
Had to tho really cos the test centre said they wouldn't book me in for lessons until i had the theory test certificate - me being a gobsh1te I told them that if I failed my theory test I had serious problems cos I'd been driving 7 years etc etc (and I had to do a theory test for my car).
Had to ask to get my score tho cos they don't print it on the certificate anymore!

I'll go and hang my head in shame.
Mitch passed first time the rotten swot :(
Don't need to do that chuck! As it wasn't so straight forward as that...
It was actually my third go - first go in the modern direct access era ;)
First attempt, like Maggie B was in Halifax, 1990, in the days of the two part test - part one went swimmingly. On the day of part two, there was me on my H100, and the instructor made me do the pulling out from the kerb, right outside the examiner's house - so he had a good look as to who he'd be getting that day... Failed on't big roundabout on the bypass.
Second attempt, still only 18 by then. The training (yeah right) school I'd booked into - by this time I was riding about on my z250/GPz305 hybrid type thing - was taking a group of us round Sheffield, only to tell me on the day of my test that it was in Chesterfield 15 miles away! In those days they had started block booking all the test centres in the area so you could get sent anywhere (all the more painful for the crappy Suzuki 125 they gave me) So I had no idea were I was going, where the test centre was, etc. and had no idea of the test route, that and the crappy weather meant I failed miserably.
I gave up at that point and a year or so later, because I was out of work, I joined the ranks of the despatch riding fraternity on my CX (on which I used to ride around the country on private roads, especially the long ones which used to go from Huddersfield to London, Occifer!!) - I wasn't the only one either, a couple of lads got found out and nicked! (very quickly did their tests soon after).
Third and final attempt was on the day I moved in with Mrs R. I'd booked it earlier in the year as a chance to get my life sorted out. Meeting Mrs R was an inspiration to make sure I passed.
I got two minor faults - the other bloke on my course got one, jammy sod! :D
Did my car test first time though!
Thought there was a maximum age for driving those things? :D
feck off................. :D :D :D

2nd test failed: Put foot down on U-turn.
(
I did that on my first and only bike test, but I had a really nice examiner who allowed me a second go as I was on a cruiser, rather than the usual hired bikes..
Passed my car test ten years before hand, almost got away with not having to do the theory, but that was a piece of p*ss away.... Well after having fun with the CDrom an hour a night for a week...
My licence matures next month!!!!!

That sounds very familiar. Whilst waiting for my Part 1 to start, I decided to have a go at the cones. Bike wouldn't start cos of a knackered battery, so I tried to bump start it...in 1st gear. Didn't have time to jump on, ended up running alongside like speedy gonzalez and then did my second stupid thing. I pulled the front brake, bike skidded on the gravel and both bike and I went under a parked car. Hurt like hell, but still did the test and passed :D Went to hospital a few hours later when I was still hurting and found I'd broken my knee  It gave me gip for years afterwards :(

The few times i've had to ride a 125 (can be counted on one hand and have spare fingers) the bikes complained about the excessive weight!!!! After CBT did one lesson on a 125 and then straight onto 500's.

GS125 for my CBT, can't remember what pile of junk they put me on when i went for proper lessons, but they quickly moved me up to a CB500 cos the 125 refused to go more than 15mph up a steep hill with me on it!

sr125 both times when I had to ride a 125. Bandit 600 to do me direct access on. Its so much easier to ride a larger bike than a 125 or 250 but no one believes you until they get on one

I passed on my third try... the examiner was a Dave Proudlove and he was a star...
First time... too hesitant at junctions, also weaving all over the road (well, I was only 8 stone, on a Honda H100, in a force 9 sidewind...)
Second time... told to turn right immediately after a zebra crossing, I failed to see a pedestrian actually ON the crossing... oh, and too hesitant, again.
